I've been coming here for more than 30 years. It was a staple visit every time I went to Ptown. The food, atmosphere, staff and entertainment were always consistent with prior visits as well as the general "feel" of the Cape. This has drastically changed in the last few years. Service has become "clicky" with a lack of attention, basic customer service and general respect. Servers will noticeably ignore you if they don't feel like taking another table. Waiting 15 to 20 minutes after being sat by staff is not uncommon. You can see staff hiding in the kitchen staring out at the customers. Oftentimes, they can be seen doing shots behind the bar or in the kitchen while they wait you out until the kitchen closes. Usually, they stop serving food 30 minutes before the kitchen closes which is nearly an hour before other local shops and the needs of hungry tourists. This place has become more of a hangout for staff than a service for the public. I have personally been verbally assaulted and criticized by staff/management; it's very high school dramatic behavior and is allowed by the "manager/chef" and his girlfriend/server. The pretentious staff behavior is only exceeded by the pretentious new menu which offers nothing of traditional Cape values. Changing the menu without changing the business name is nothing more than bait and switch. If you want to change drastically from a traditional New England tourist pub to an upscale, modern Asian-inspired venue, then change everything to match including the online menu. Tricking clients into stopping in with an outdated menu only to have them be disappointed by an out of place, highly selective menu that offers no local or traditional expectations or options is another example of their close-minded philosophy on customer experience. In closing, I hope management rethinks their strategies towards guest engagement. Owning and running a business is a big responsibility and requires maturity and wisdom to know when to put the needs of the guests and tradition ahead of presumption and ego. Consider a rebranding to this new concept rather than using established hard work and reputation which does not match the physical or emotional state of the property. Since I can honestly say that there was NOTHING on the new menu I thought sounded edible, I will visit other more traditional and guest-centric establishments that honor the history and legacy and charm that is Provincetown.
And to add insult to injury, I just received my credit card statement and found that they charged me for the tab we never received. And they automatically added 20% gratuity on top of it. We never even ate there. As soon as they showed us the ridiculous Asian menu for a New England tavern, we immediately said we would eat elsewhere (and have receipts to prove it!) Fraud and unpleasant customer service continues at the new and improved...
Read moreWent unnoticed at the bar for about five minutes before we tried walking around to attract the attention of a server who could, hopefully, seat us and get us started on something... But even that was too much to ask for and we had to flag down the hostess (when there are three open entrances to the restaurant) in order to get a seat.
That experience, alone, would drop down the review a star or two, but things were only getting started.
I had come with high hopes for the Yankee pot roast featured prominently on its menu for ~$18, but was instead told that it was not available and was upsold to the $30 New York strip.
The food arrived fairly quickly and was not bad by any means, but it was not a $30 steak based on the many steakcursions I have been on; it paired well with the potatoes and butter though.
My girlfriend was similarly unimpressed with the creme brulee. One of her least favorite of the many cremes we have ordered: it was shallow with the creme and on top of all that we were not given, nor offered, water.
The $70+ bill (including tip) seemed to be exorbitant for the food quality of food and service and based on what others have experienced here, I’d have to agree that this is a systemic issue.
For such a great location and setting, the service and attention to satisfaction sure...
Read moreWe have been here multiple times for dinner and never had an issue with service. We were in P-Town for the weekend and decided to try the karaoke. The sign said it started at 9:30 we got there slightly before 9:30. We put a song in the queue and waited.(which is where the problem is) The system that they use for karaoke is like a juke box. It's all online you submit a song and your name and that's it. You can't see how many people are in the queue ahead of you. Well a large party must have gotten there right when the karaoke started and loaded the queue with a bunch of songs. We waited almost two hours to sing one song while watching the same people sing 3+ times. Around 11pm we asked where we were in the queue and the list was still 20+ songs long ahead of us. Again we got here just a few minutes after it started. The host moved us up on the queue and we were told 4 songs. We'll 6 songs came and past and we still had not been called. We finally left around 11:30 and at that point almost everything was closed for the night. So we wasted the rest of our night waiting to sing one song. We won't be going back for...
