Not the experience we remember. Third time staying at The Salt House Inn in almost a decade. And sadly this 5 night stay will certainly be our last.
We realize Covid has had a devastating impact on the hospitality industry, though we received an automated marketing email on our second day from the owners, initially wanting to know how our stay was going but then quickly pivoted promoting their latest hotel opening.
Overall we felt our stay lacked any of the special touches we remembered and that helped justify the high price for a tiny, spartan room barely 150 sq feet. Especially since surrounding Inn’s at this price point we’re offing 24/7 coffee and espresso, wine and cheese hour, pool, outdoor entertainment etc, just to name a few. All done safely adhering to CDC guidelines and during this recent Delta wave.
The room itself, with a slightly upgraded motel like feel, was also showing wear. The walls are paper thin. Our door kept banging each time someone entered the common hallway. The trash in the common area, right outside our room window, was left for days, the pile getting higher. Fixtures and wood panel chipped or aged. Barely any storage and not enough room for two nightstands to be placed on either side of the bed. So our room quickly cluttered.
Location is fine. The breakfast, now served in the room starting at 8am, seems pre-cooked and generic. You have to select all the options to ensure you have a decent meal. Even the one serving of coffee they provide is small. The guy at the front desk was friendly., but mostly disinterested. We felt like we were staying in a tiny room, extremely expensive AirBnB.
Overall we had another amazing time in magical Ptown. However next time we’ll be definitely be staying elsewhere. There are so many other better options in...
Read moreOur group of media took over Salt House for an event not long after they opened and I was impressed at how good it was so close to their having opened. I stay at a lot of hotels and I know that the period immediately post-opening can be so difficult. They seemed a bit short staffed at times and definitely stressed by a large, demanding group like ours. SO that's why I was impressed at how pleasant the experience was given the odds being stacked against all involved. Room size varies greatly so while I was happy with my room size, I think for others their rooms were a bit small. And there's a suite that has a stand alone tub that's divine. But it's only that one room. We enjoyed breakfast every day (which for us differed and was pre-made just like you'd experience at a bed and breakfast) and dinner one night. It was all excellent. Nothing bad to say about the food! I loved the MALIN+GOETZ bath products in the rooms but was disappointed not to have lotion. That might just not have been added to my room or it might be something you need to pack when you stay there. I don't know! I really appreciated that the water provided in the room was in a paper "bottle" and not plastic!! It's not immediately on the "main drag" of Provincetown but it's close enough that the location is still ideal I think. All things considered in the end, I would recommend...
Read moreI booked a stay here through Expedia about 4 weeks ago for July 2024 that I was really looking forward to. Much to my dismay, I received a very vague and unapologetic notification from the property through Expedia letting me know that my reservation was canceled and that it would be refunded. Expedia was incredibly unhelpful in assisting me with finding a new place to stay and they let me know many other's were facing the same situation as the Inn would be closed. I then received a call from from the Inn directly telling me that Expedia had the wrong rates and they would call me back with the new rates once they've been finalized. Needless to say, both parties are trying to cover-up for their own negligence but I am the one stuck with plane tickets, ferry tickets, and other things related to this trip that I have purchased and are non-refundable. I have never experienced such horrible customer service in my entire life and I am starting to think that maybe I dogged a bullet here. If they can't keep track of whatever false rates they are putting out there for customers to book for over a month and do not offer a solution, they certainly can't provide an experience that would be enjoyable. Ptown is such a wonderful place and there are plenty of fantastic places to stay, so I would suggest saving yourself the hassle and staying clear of...
