A much anticipated almost 2 hr. Car trip to South Bass Island was the first place my daughter waned to go as Dads reward for her successful year of high school. Our intent ? For my friend, my daughter,, and myself,, to beat the summer heat, rush & crowds and kick-off summer break on Memorial Day to pay homage to her youth group and parish and also to honor her late great-grandfather ( my grandfather), and also grandfather,(my Father), whom singlely served in both World Wars. Put-in-Bay has rich military history which we were able to discuss and visit some of sites as well as a stop at the historic , Our Lady of Sorrows church . Thank You to Elizabeth for our impromptu visit, history lesson, O.L.O.S. tour, and visitors advise. The locals, and shop keeps , were very pleasant, helpful , friendly, and respectful. However in the late afternoon as traffic had really thinned out we stopped ,and parked in ( what I understood from looking on the internet to be ,- Holliday- free) 15 min parking in frt. of an apparel shop on Deleware Ave.. Our properly parked cart was cited for UNPAID PARKING (5 $ AN HR), and ended up costing an unnessesary extra 38$ citation for a properly parked 4 person cart , parked between the lines..... So, in addition to: a day spent ,and gas , driving to, ferry$,rented 4 person cart$, supper$,& souvenir$ ( all exspected expenditures) this additional cost of the fine made my daughter feel apologetic to me for having to shell out , hard earned, family funds..This was not an anomaly! Our cart was 1 of many carts cited that afternoon, leaving many people bewildered , and very disappointed! Some expressed feelings of being violated , as if something of theirs was unknowing taken from them,( it was taken from us all ...35$ fine + 3 dollars to use electronic payment), even outwardly upset 😡, expressing that they would not return again to South Bass Island or Put-in-Bay. This will jot stop our family from returning. Sad use family funds for something as trivial as," responsibly parking," downtown+ Especially, because as a family, we support those who serve , and have served.. My concern is that my daughter will not forget this visit, but possibly and sadly for the wrong reason. . This money grab has painted a poor image of the Put-in-bay village counsil, and also the village police dept. , and also does not paint a warm, nor welcome, feeling for the Village of Put-in-Bay, despite the hard work so many have tioiled in the past, and still do, to make those whom visit, eager and want to return!. A tarnished experience and first impression of such Great Day and...
Read moreI love Put N Bay on South Bass island. The jet boat express ride from Port Clinton was a great deal of fun. People had their own party on the boat especially when coming back at night time around 12:00 am when the last boat leaves the island. I have been there two times with my friends a couple of years ago and another time about 15 years ago with my family. We loved riding the golf carts all over the island and had a free cart rental with our stay at the Bay Lodging Resort. The Mist and Splash sit up pool bars were a blast. The crowd was great along with the music and waterfalls. We all loved the different dining venues, night clubs and winery. The view was great on top of Perry's Victory & International Peace Memorial. It was so neat looking into Canada and over to Michigan. It was a great trip and only about a three and half hour drive from Pittsburgh. We all hope to visit again once the pandemic resides. Thank you for the great times and...
Read moreWhat can I say about Put in Bay other than that it is an awesome place for a staycation to get away from the everyday stress of being a nurse! My husband and I have made long weekend trips and even impromptu mid week trips to PIB. When you are on the Miller Ferry headed to PIB you really do feel like you are leaving OHIO and on your way to a vacation island! There is so much to do depending on what your mood is or what you are looking for. During the day you can eat at one of the many different restaurants they have on the island, try a winery or two, check out the lighthouse, the caves, or enjoy some fun in the sun while having drinks at one of the many swim up bars. In the evening you can bar hop at one of the many themed bars (my fav is mojito bar), have a delicious sea food dinner with a beautiful view of the lake at the Board Walk restaurant, or enjoy an ice cream while going on a romantic stroll on...
