Follow-up after resorts response: ⸻ Thank you for your response, but I feel the need to clarify several key inaccuracies:
The sheets were not just “damp” — they were visibly stained with what appeared to be urine, and your own staff acknowledged the room had not been properly turned over from the previous guests. Your team did not request to enter the room for cleaning during our stay, nor were we told to notify you when we left. That claim is simply false. Regarding the statement that “no staff member said they don’t care about customer service” — we stand by our experience. The front desk worker explicitly told us that she “didn’t care about customer service” and that she would not argue with us. You’ve completely failed to address the mold, which was documented with photos and reported to multiple agencies.
This isn’t just about one small issue — it was a pattern of neglect, poor sanitation, and unprofessional treatment. We’ve filed complaints with the Ottawa County Health Department, Ohio Department of Health, Better Business Bureau, and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
We sincerely hope you take this seriously moving forward — for your future guests’ health and safety.
⭐️ 1 out of 5 stars Absolutely the Worst Resort Experience We’ve Ever Had
We stayed at the Put-in-Bay Resort for a girls trip—six of us excited for a fun weekend—but it quickly became the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had.
Upon arrival, we found the pull-out couch already made with what appeared to be urine-stained sheets. There was visible mold in the bathroom, and the room clearly had not been cleaned properly. When we contacted the front desk (using our personal phones, since there are no phones in the rooms), a staff member eventually came up, saw the condition of the bedding, changed the sheets, and admitted the room was still a mess from the last guests.
That wasn’t the end of the issues. There was only one roll of toilet paper in the entire room for six people. When we called to request more basic toiletries, it took over an hour for someone to bring them up.
Both nights, kids were running up and down the hallways, yelling, and even kicking our door, making it hard to relax or get any rest.
At checkout, when we asked if any compensation would be offered for all the issues, the front desk staff member was extremely rude and unprofessional. Instead of acknowledging the problems, she insinuated we had wet the bed, saying she was told the sheets were “just wet” and dismissing our concerns completely. She openly said she did not care about customer service and that she was “not going to argue.”
This experience was unacceptable on every level. From poor cleanliness and long wait times for basic necessities to the complete lack of professionalism and accountability—we would never stay here again and strongly caution others to avoid...
Read morePut-in-Bay Resort is very nice. If I could I would give it between a 3-4 star for various reasons. If you continue reading, you'll know why. First of all it is very conveniently located just a short two blocks away from the main "downtown" area. We stayed in the villas which are across the street from the hotel and the pool facility. The hotel is very nice as is the outdoor area, pool, hot tub and bar area. Lots of chaise lounges for guests. Clean and well kept. The staff we dealt with were very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The villas are very affordable for four single ladies. Our villa had 4 bedrooms and three full bathrooms on three floors. There is a porch and also below that there is a paver patio with tables, a grill, and places to gather for more people. The villa is very basically furnished. The kitchen is a galley kitchen. Not too much in the way of cooking utensils, and dishes, but why would you need that at Put-in-Bay steps away from restaurants? We weren't planning to cook. Here's why I'd rate it a three star: The furnishings are well worn and basic, (that's not really a problem, but I'm much older than the regular PIB demographic and I'm used to a little more luxury...but I can handle this for two days!) the pillows were not comfortable but the beds were; there is a liquid soap dispenser next to the sink in each of the bathrooms, along with a liquid lotion dispenser. But there is no soap dispenser in the shower, nor do they provide bar soap or shampoo, etc. It didn't bother me as I always travel with my own bar soap and shampoo. In my bathroom (up on the top floor) I didn't have any washcloths, but the other bathrooms had washcloths provided. Also in all bathrooms, the only toilet paper we had when we arrived was what was on the roll, and that was near the end of the roll. The next morning we saw the housekeeping staff and they provided us with two extra rolls for each bathroom. So actually I highly recommend this property to you if you are coming up to Put-in-Bay. I'm just saying you might want to bring your own pillow, soap and personal hair care products. This is really not a facility for children even though there is a lot of space. One more thing: if you want to have a golf cart at your disposal, you can only use one company approved by the resort. We rented a golf cart, but found we really didn't need it. The only thing that was a little disconcerting was we paid $60/day for the golf cart and the company also charged an additional $20 for us to keep it overnight. That's my bad not seeing that in the contract. But I'm just telling other people who read this review, to consider all of this because for two days the golf cart rental was $160.00. Definitely not worth it when you are staying in the downtown area because you don't need it. You can...
Read moreI'll give it 4 stars even though it is really just a 3 star hotel.
Stayed 6/29 - 7/6 2017, Ahead of time I know all about this hotel, and its blue marlin bar and grill. I know the place is a 3 star hotel, not because of the friendly service there, but because a lot of people stay like a day and leave the next day. It does have somethings that make it a nice place at times.
Our room was a guarantee pool view, but they had run out of pool view. No Problem, I am 52 years old, and I am hearing impaired, you do not want to face the pool unless you are in your 20's. The DJ as I have heard is loud and indeed it was loud all day from 11AM to 10ish at night.
Expect the PIB police to be visiting the hotel on Friday and Saturday's multiple times. Expect to smell marijuana around to pool and hotel entrance many times a day. I have no problem with people smoking weed, keep in mind it is not legal for any use in Ohio. In my 20's I smoked it too, but not in the hotel halls, rooms or even close to people that would smell it all the time.
The pool is not as big as it looks in the photographs, so keep in mind Thursday - Sunday the pool is so jammed you do not want to go in it. Swim up Tiki Bar means people are peeing in the pool more than likely nothing I want to experience. I didn't come to the hotel for the Bar and Grill and swimming pool, we came for other things so all that doesn't apply to my girlfriend and myself.
You need to know some things, if you do not have a sign in your room that says Service Please and on the other side of it it say Privacy Please you need to go to the hotel office and get one, if you do not put Service Please on the door handle they will not service your room.
My room was clean and smelled smoke free, it gets a B because it doesn't have enough hooks or shelves in the shower to do anything with your stuff. They do provide Shampoo, Liquid soap, and body wash nothing I used in the shower. We have our own stuff.
The free breakfast in the morning is not served on Saturdays and they turn off the Wifi on Saturdays as well. Reason to many people to feed to many people using the wifi it bogs it down. OK, no problem we can go else where for those things.
Breakfast is OK, give it another B the coffee and tea is real good.
Service is good another B there.
It is not really a place for the older crowd on Thursday - Saturday, Sunday things start to calm down Mon - Wed is the best time they get a 5 star from Monday - Wednesday from me.
Keep in mind PIB Island is a party island and this has to be the main party place of the whole island for younger folks! If you are younger this is the place you want to come too!
It is indeed a 3 Star hotel and could be 4 or 5 star hotel if they just changed a few things along with how long you have...
