Skip the train and just get a good cart rental.
To begin with, it isn't clear when you get off the ferry where you are supposed to go to get to the train. Neither the website nor brochure tells you that you have to take the bus downtown to get to the train. Instead, you have to read the fine print on the ticket that we got in a whole pile of them we got when purchasing the all in one package. So we thought we had to walk to one of the stops, which was 25 mins, and then we weren't supposed to get in the train there. Their website said they would stop every 30 minds at the stops, but it was every 1 hr. This makes it impossible to time, especially since the stops don't know when the bus typically comes at. If you miss the train you have to wait a while hour before another will come. The train drives so close to the ferry dock but doesn't even stop there. The tour itself is pretty mediocre, so you aren't missing anything if you just get your own golf...
Read moreThe tour train was a great deal of fun. Our guide, John, was knowledgeable and personable. The facts he offered were interesting. His corny joke was, indeed, quite corny. There are several stops that the train makes; you are allowed to get off of the train and if you wait about half an hour you may get on the next train as it passes by. That allows you to stop off at something you find particularly interesting and then still have a way to get back to where you started. And it's more informative and cost effective than renting a golf cart! And, towards the end of the day, John actually came looking for us to pick us up since he knew we were still out by the caves. I found that to be really thoughtful and very much...
Read moreI highly recommend taking this tour to get familiar with South Bass Island and all it has to offer. Despite a bit of rain at the start, we were still able to enjoy the ride and learn so many fun facts from our guide, Chip. It was especially interesting to hear from a local what it's like to live on the island, particularly during the winter. The ride itself is a fun way to get around, and it's definitely a safer option if you plan on visiting any of the two local Wineries. Overall, it's clear the guides are passionate locals who love and care about...
