I wish I could give 10 stars to this place because they deserve it!!
I started shopping here in April of 2020 when the pandemic started escalating and food shortages occurred. Stop and Shop, which I was never fond of anyway, was empty-shelved and in shambles.
Full disclosure: I would never have thought to shop at 99ranch because I am a Caucasian American and was concerned that I couldnāt identify the food or communicate with the staff.
Butā¦I live right next door and can walk over in 2 minutes, so I vowed to take a break from Stop and Shop and visit 99 ranch.
Verdict: I will NEVER return to Stop and Shop. No need. I LOVE 99 Ranch!!!! Although I was a devoted Big Y fan, I can now say 99R is my new go-to!
Hereās what a non-Asian can love:
The BEST mushrooms I have ever purchased!!!! And I am a mushroom aficionado who is hard to please.
Excellent prices!!!!!!!
high quality eggs and cottage cheeseā¦.dirt cheap! I paid way more for cottage cheese and Greek yogurt at Stop and Shop.
an improving selection of cleaning supplies and paper products.
The only inventory drawbacks:
Standard American canned staples like coffee and canned tuna are missing, but this is not a problem for me because I can get my coffee and tuna elsewhere.
Health and beauty selection pales compared to stop and shop. Beauty products targeted toward Asian woman, which makes sense.
They have a fresh fish counter, but I am hesitant to order unfamiliar fish. I can go to Burkeās! I donāt eat red meat or poultry, so I canāt attest to those product comparisons.
Immaculately clean store!
About the staffā¦.yes, I had some awkward moments in the past year due to the language barrier, but a bilingual customer stepped in and translated. Also, some staff members speak more English than othersā¦usually front-store supervisors. You just have to learn who is fluent and keep returning to them.
That said, all staff is incredibly gracious and helpful!!!! The cashiers are quick, efficient, and ACCURATE!!!
Give this place a try!! You may...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat addition to Quincy. Lots of parking, and the inside is pretty spacious as well. I am able to find most things here, but sometimes I need to go to H-Mart or Kam Man to complete my grocery shopping.
Some things that I've tried: Tiramisu cake: Very good. Perfect amount of sweetness, which is what I love about Asian pastries. It was also quite moist and fluffy. Pan Fried Pork Buns ($3.99): I was supposed to get three according to the menu description. The worker tried to communicate something to me in Chinese, but I don't speak the language. I believe she was saying she would give me a fourth red bean sesame ball as compensation (which is not a fair trade tbh since the red bean sesame balls are significantly smaller and sweet as opposed to savory, but it was whatever). Overall, I did not like these buns. It was impossible to separate the paper from the bottom, the dough and filling were dry, and the pork tasted weird. Red Bean Sesame Balls ($1.99): These were smaller than what is typically served at dim sum, so there wasn't much filling. However, they tasted okay. Banana Nut Pound Cake ($5.99): Great price for the amount you get. Sweet, soft, and moist. I liked the toasted walnuts. Custard Pineapple Bun ($1.85): The top wasn't crumbly enough, but the flavor was good. The inside tastes like an egg tart. A small part of the bun was undercooked. Hot Dog Bun ($1.95): Pretty average. Would not get again. Milk Butter Bun ($1.85): Surprisingly good despite it being the last thing still available near closing time. Soft and not too sweet. Coffee Cupcake ($2.50): Soft and nice coffee flavor but very dry, unlike the pound cake. Do not recommend. Pork Sung Bun ($1.95): The cream cheese filling was a bit overwhelming. I would have preferred a milkier bun like the ones from Top Bread. Coconut Butter Cream Bun ($1.85): This tasted fine, but I wouldn't get it again because it wasn't anything special. The filling is just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI and my family are customers at 99 Ranch market. We usually go there after eating dim sum at the next door. I want to bring 3 things to the Manager or ownerās attention and also share these with other customers to be aware of. We bought a box of durian that marked discounted price 13.99$ (regular price 25$), however, when we got home, it tasted sour like the food that was spoiled. My house is only 40mins drive, i believe the driving distance couldnāt make the durian sour unless it was already spoiled from the store. I understand the discounted produce/fruit were sometimes on the old products but at least it has to be edible not something that was already spoiled. If the customers have problems after eating, they could sue you! I threw it into the trash because i didnāt want to waste my time, my money on gas to drive back and forth to return it, and i donāt think they will accept that their fruit was spoiled. The staff that put vegetables into plastic bags was very rude, staring at me angrily when i was just choosing the smaller pack of vegetables. I have never seen such behavior at American stores but usually at asian store. I am asian too, no way i talked bad about asian if it was not true. Please improve your staff behavior. The worst thing that i think i will never go there again is the snack from bakery. The staff members who worked at the bakery area, wearing same gloves when packing the bread into the plastic package and holding money when they charge customers. I never noticed this until one day, i saw with my two eyes. The germs from the money will go to the bread when you do like this. What is the purpose of wearing gloves if you donāt use it in the right way? Please donāt let the staff do multiple tasks, preparing bread and charging money, they need to be different people or they need to change their gloves if they have to run from task to...
