Fox Theatre — Attraction in Redwood City

On Friday, 6/6, I attended Dionela’s Grace Tour concert with three others. We sat in the mezzanine (balcony) section, seats A-31 to A-34, and overall, we really liked our view.

As a drummer with moderate audiovisual experience (mostly from church settings), I’d say the trade-off for slightly cheaper balcony seats was a less immersive auditory experience. While the view was great, I don’t believe I had the ideal listening environment compared to the floor level. I’m quite confident this is due to venue acoustics, not any fault of Dionela’s sound team.

Seat comfort was decent for nearly three hours of sitting. Armrests were small, though not unexpected for a historic venue. Cleanliness was a plus — restrooms on both floors were well-kept (at least within the first 30 minutes after doors opened). I bought my tickets online, so I can’t speak to the box office experience. Conveniently located a block from Caltrain and surrounded by a variety of bars and restaurants, this venue was an unexpected pleasure. Plenty of room to stand or sit. The sound mix was best seated in the center of the room. I didn't go to the 2nd floor. The concession stand had reasonably priced goods, of which I didn't buy any. I was surprised by the lack of security. I walked right in with only a scan of my ticket. The main hall is nice, but drab. It's bathed in beige and could really use a paint job or something to update its appearance. I will definitely be spending more time at the Fox Theater and Redwood City in general. We booked the Fox Theatre for our wedding (around 150 people) and it was an amazing night! Everyone that we worked with was professional, easy going, and fully committed to making the evening a party. We had access to the whole lighting staff, bar staff, and security. The venue doesn't place any time restrictions, so when you book the theater, you book it for the whole day, which made planning much easier.
