Updated update: It has now been well over eight years since I first purchased appliances from Agren. Since that time we have purchased two more major appliances from them for our home, as well as several mattresses and a dishwasher for a summer home. Every single experience with them has been exceptionally good, and we will continue to use them whenever we need anything that they sell. If buying a major appliance I highly recommend purchasing their five year service plan as well. It has more than paid for itself for us over time.
[previous] Update: After more than five years of working together with Agren, I think it’s time to update this review to reflect my experiences. This is going to run long, so here’s the executive summary:
If I ever need a new appliance, or anything that Agren sells, I will buy from them if at all practical. Over more than five years they have earned my loyalty time and time again with exceptional service both pre and post sale.
The long story (I can’t edit my own words, so forgive the length): When my wife and I purchased new appliances for a condo we were having built for us we bought all of them from Agren. We knew nothing about them, being new to the area. The builder worked with and recommended them so we went there, and everything that’s gone on with them since has confirmed that they were and remain the best option in the area. As an example, we had a problem with the in-door ice maker on our side-by-side KitchenAid fridge last May, while the unit was still under a five year maintenance and repair contract with Agren. (As an aside, I will never, ever buy a fridge with an in-door ice maker again). The problem was a wiring harness failure. The harness was not replaceable. The technician explained that he could probably repair it, but wasn’t sure that the repair would hold up. Since the proper repair would require an entire new door, a $1200 part we asked him to go ahead with the repair, and we would see if it stayed fixed. Flash forward to December, about a month after our contract had expired. The ice maker had failed again. When I called service I was told very nicely that the fridge was no longer under contract. I explained the situation and the agent asked if I could send pictures of the problem area. I did so and got a message back saying that Agren was extending the contract on that appliance so that they could fix the problem, and that Agren would send the original technician as soon as he had availability. When he came he remembered the job and looked at the harness. Another wire had failed, and three was no way to fix it, so he called in and they ordered a replacement door at a cost to Agren roughly equivalent to the price of a new fridge. That’s one story, and the most dramatic, but there are plenty more where that came from. All of my experiences with Agren have been positive.
Original review: When having a condo built in Saco Maine we were taken to Agren to choose appliances. We worked with George P., who was everything we wanted in a salesman. He was knowledgeable, professional, friendly and courteous. After picking the appliance we wanted and getting a quote we shopped around and found it to be entirely reasonable.
Agren acquired the appliances and held them until our place was in shape to install them, which was quite a bit longer than expected. They did the installation, and quickly took care of the only "teething" problem we had, switching the way the dryer door opened. George himself came to our place and switched it for us. I guess his quality as a salesman is helped by his hands on experience with the things he sells.
Finally, after hearing about the excellent service Agren provides, and having experience with Sears and other big box abysmal service plans, we purchased five years of coverage for all our appliances from Agren. So far the one service issue we had (our fault as it turns out) was handled promptly and correctly.
We would use Agren again in a heartbeat, and recommend...
Read moreSadly, after years of thinking highly of this company, I have had the absolute worst experience with them. In talking with their sales team I was told that the GE 2 in 1 washer dryer combo was excellent. I have two pups and wash blankets frequently and I ordered the larger capacity unit and was told by their sales guy that the unit would be fine for washing blankets . I had the init 2 months and it died. It took Agren a month to get here (apparently , the service contract I paid for in advance doesn’t kick in until the 1 year factory warranty is up?). The service person said the machine was too advanced for him and I definitely shouldn’t be washing blankets in it anyhow. He still didn’t know what was wrong with it when he left but decided it needed a new motor. He left and a week went by with bo follow up. I called the sales manager and said i wasn’t satisfied with the unit and I was given misinformation regarding usage. He followed up a few days later saying GE wouldn’t take it back, this has happened before with these units and the motor needed to be replaced and it’ll be fine and the parts will be in that week. At this juncture the unit has had standing water in it for 5 weeks.. I received a call from the service department to schedule the repair and the parts aren't in yet and the repair is now scheduled for 6/22 (another 3 weeks from when they said it would be repaired). By that time i will have had a broken unit for over 2 months with standing water in it.. Also, lets not forget that we are having to go to the laundromat multiple times a week. I have had better experiences with the major box stores. Sadly, Agren has joined the ranks of lowes and Home Depot so save yourself the money and buy from them instead. You'll get the same poor service but at least you won’t be paying over the top prices for a product that doesn’t work. I will never use this company again nor refer my...
Read moreMarvellous. A joy.
We required replacement of 3 appliances. After visiting three national chains and two local shops we stopped in at the Saco Agren. We shopped without any undue sales pressure.
We asked for assistance from Jason, who honestly and knowledgeablely answered our questions. We selected our replacement appliances, and got a lower price than the 5 other retailers.
Price should often be the minimal prerequisite. Who will do the installation? Agren has their own factory certified technicians. This is another area where Agren excels. Being handicapped and having gone through five cancer operations, I was worried about being left with work. They were not aware of my medical situation.
Chris did an expert job of installing and testing our dishwasher. Ron and Ben came in a separate truck with the heavier items of range and refrigerator. All was performed professionally and beyond my expectation. There was nothing left for me to deal with. What a joy.
Do you want quality appliances? Do you want professional pre-sales advice? Do you want expert factory trained technicians and installation? Do you want competitive pricing? Then I highly recommend you give Agren a visit.
My wife was so Impressed with this vendor that she ordered a Frigidaire upright freezer. She was delighted with the delivery and removal of a very old chest unit.
All our appliances have worked...
