EDITED TO REPLY TO BUSINESS OWNER: Threats made if you did not comply??? Is this a joke? My husband called and asked if there was anything that you could do to work with us. We were told no and said "We understand. That stinks." We then called back a little while later and asked if we could switch the appt to the next day and were again told no to which my husband said "It's ok. I understand. Just thought we would try." He was very pleasant on the phone. We were in a breakfast restaurant while he was speaking to your staff. Your response is completely out of line and a bold faced lie and is honestly slander. I am blown away by the accusations you are throwing out here to try to save face on a bad review. There was absolutely ZERO foul language used and ABSOLUTELY no threats made to anyone! We understood this was our error (as I clearly stated in my review) and were looking for some customer service!
Also, we were not "explained" of the cancellation policies. It was booked online and you have to click on a very small link to review the policies. So that is a deceiving comment made in the response. Again, our fault that we did not realize the mistake we had made as I have stated multiple times. We were hoping for some customer service and leniency based on the situation as I explained in my review. I, in no way, slandered your spa. I explained exactly what happened so to see this absolutely insane!
I was very honest in my review and you clearly were not and have zero integrity. I cannot believe a business owner would act in this manner!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: We are from out of town and made an appointment for a 60 minute couples massage for our "mommy and daddy weekend getaway". My husband had booked it and we realized the day of our appointment that he had made a mistake when looking up the distance between where we were staying and where this spa was. It was over an hour away and we weren't going to make in time. We called as soon as we realized and asked if there was anything they could do to work with us. We were basically told they would not work with us to either push back the appointment time, give us another appointment the next day or give us any sort of (even partial refund), not even a partial credit to use at a later date. I understand that this was our error, but it would have been nice customer service if they even tried to work with us. It felt like they just said "you made a mistake, oh well, we're taking your money". $282 totally down the drain and now I will never consider giving them my business when we visit Maine...

The massage was great! I will say that the reviews we read had over-hyped the "experience." The facilities are clean and the customer service was excellent. But the "sanctuary" is really just a waiting room (nicely furnished and clean). It was kind of stressful getting there, it is a large mill building with many businesses and the signage for the spa is kind of hard to pick out when you park. Panic set in: OMG, where do we go, are we really going to be late for our massage??? We finally found the sign and got in the elevator and hastily chose floor 3A instead of 3. Confused, we called reception and she straightened us out. The elevator door opened on 3 to a dark hallway because the lights are on motion sensor. The bathroom is public, outside the spa door in the hallway (relatively clean). The "Couples Custom Riverside Experience" was a great massage, but the room was pretty plain, the shades were drawn and when I peeked out the window to see the river it was a view of the road. The room was a little small for two tables, I heard the masseuse stumble over a stool when she was trying to navigate around my table. The sound system is pretty nice, a step up from a boom box.

I booked a massage for myself and my husband for my birthday. I was hoping for a couples massage and although Janet doesn't have a couple massage room, she has something better; a sanctuary. We were warmly welcomed as soon as we got off the elevator and guided to the sanctuary room. In the sanctuary, she has provided such a calming and peaceful escape. It's clear she has put her heart and soul into this beautiful establishment. Janet gave us the most luxurious robes to change into and then while I received the most incredible massage, my husband was able to relax in the sanctuary room for just over an hour. Every detail of the massage was amazing. I truly enjoyed the time I got to spend in the sanctuary during my husband's massage. We left feeling "massage drunk" and just blown away by the experience. We will be back and I'm telling everyone I know. You don't regret booking your next massage with The Spa...
