Today, I went to DL to play in my first tournament after practicing and learning the game from my friend who is a local professor. I was really excited and was looking forward to it all day and invited the person who taught me the game to come along with me. When we all arrived, I was hopeful because my professor friend knew others at the tournament, chatting them up, I was looking forward to meeting new people to play and learn from!
There was one one slot left and told my friend and his son the the news, my friend went up to Mike, the in house professor, to see if any room could be made after my friend called the store with the rep mentioning they should have room. Mike did help me create a player ID for me, which was the only help he provided. Mike was very dismissive towards my friend and denied any conversation happened from the front reps of any room in the tournament and became argumentative and aggressive very quickly...all of this in front of me, a person who has no experience playing in a tournament, no expectations other than having a great time, which did not happen.
I quickly withdrew my entry from the tournament and asked for a refund. The previous reviews paint the picture pretty clearly. Mike told my friend and his son that he doesn't want them in his community. I'm just honestly disappointed that I my first time going to a tournament was a sour one, an hour of driving back and forth for nothing other than a bad experience that I'll remember as a new player in the community.
Just stings.
I hope something can be made right from all this but at this point, I'm going to find another location that's more welcoming. I look forward to learning more from the game and meeting new people in the community as a collector turned player! If you know of any meets or tournaments, please...
Read moreSo I've been playing here for 4 years with the board game group. Mike has always been kind to us even when we get a little rowdy. Mike informed a man that his tournament had capped. When he found that out the adult male got upset and stated someone had told him they would still be allowed to enter and Mike firmly said no. After this the gentleman got upset and proceeded to keep pushing. He insulted Mike, the store, the staff and kept pressuring to be let in. He asked them to leave after it had reached a point where even the other patrons made comments towards the man. He never told a kid he wasn't welcomed, he did ask them to leave after the beligerance reached a certain height.
Mike has always been a happy go lucky guy when I go in and play Board games with the board gaming group. He always accomadates us even when we have to many playing and we stick out into the aisle. This store and staff love their patrons and it shows through their actions. I will always be a loyal shopper here and direct people to come to professor Mike because he is the absolute best with kids. He helps with math and reading and encourages their creativeness. I know because he taught my grandson both this and D&D.
I would like to also bring to light that there are 4 reviews from but only 2 adults showed up with a kid. Please do better to not spread misinformation this hurts the store and the staff and they dont deserve it especially if you fail to...
