I didn't know what to expect but I was pretty disappointed in this place. The first ride had a long slow line, the ride itself was super short and not all that fun. You just shoot at characters on hard to see screens with a laser gun.
There is a big room with Lego models of the city, which was cool for adults and older kids. Not much to do there besides ooh and ahh for a few minutes.
There's a standard indoor playground like you'll find at places like Urban Air. Which, while I fault them for not thinking of something more creative, they honestly need it because the Lego building area was just sort of, idk, meh I guess. It was a complete wreck when we went, which was in the late afternoon on a Saturday. Legos scattered ALL over the place. None of the Legos that were supposed to be categorized for the car building area were where they supposed to be. You'd think they would have a staff member regularly straightening it up, but no. They have a Duplo Lego area for the littles but it's just a couple small bins. Thankfully my kids are old enough for the regular Legos. They had fun trying to build cars and then trying them out on the different ramps, but my 8 year old was frustrated that he couldn't find the pieces he needed because of the mess.
There is another ride in the main area, which my kids were excited to go on. However even though there was no line it took forever for the girl running it to let us in, and then she stood around at the operator booth for an exceedingly long time (maybe 10 or more minutes) before coming to check that everyone was buckled in properly (they weren't). Then the ride was over in maybe 3 minutes even though there was only one person waiting. I kept an eye on the ride after that to see if it was just us, but no she just stood around talking to another staff member for a lot of the time. Guest enjoyment was clearly the farthest thing from her mind.
Overall the staff in the main area all really seem to hate their jobs. No smiling, and most barely looking at guests in the face. I don't know if it's a pay issue (very likely), a training issue (definitely), a workplace culture issue (also likely), or a hiring issue (probably). Upper management needs to go ask Chick-fil-A how to fix whatever the problem is.
We didn't check out the movie but I doubt that would have changed my opinion much.
The cafe wasn't serving made-to-order food by the time we went there so we got snacks. Two sprites, a water, three bags of chips, a cookie, two jellos, two cupcakes, and two Lego shaped plastic boxes was $47 and some change. On top of the $60 entry tickets and $15 for parking that's $122 dollars for two hours of "fun". I would rather have spent that money on more Lego sets for my kids and helped them build them together.
Thankfully my kids had a decent time, but I think now that the novelty has worn off we won't be back. I'm disappointed because Lego is all about innovation and creativity, but there wasn't much creative thought put into this "Discovery" center. It's really just a tourist trap. The Doseum is SOO much better, has hours of fun stuff to do, fosters more thinking and creativity, and...
Read moreI got a combo ticket for Legoland and Sea Life, and I had a great time at both of those places.
Tl;dr: Legoland has a lot of fun things to do and cool things to look at, but a lot of the stuff at the gift shop is big and not the easiest to pack. Meanwhile, Sea Life has a lot of sea life and areas to explore, but beware of the token machine because it will take more money than you want it to.
I went to Legoland during the racing event, which was absolutely amazing because you got to make your own cars and race them down the ramp. There were also a wide variety of play areas and lego bins to choose from, and I very rarely felt unsatisfied with the collection. In addition, their lego rendering of San Antonio has an astonishing amount of detail and so many small things to find that make the experience that much more fulfilling. My only gripe with the place was that the gift shop felt lacking in smaller souvenirs, but that's quite minor in comparison to the fun that you have there.
Sea Life has a wide variety of sea creatures from jellyfish to turtles to whole sharks, and you could learn so much about them thanks to the blurbs of information that were provided by their enclosures. Furthermore, there was enough space so that you could actually see the aquariums instead of people trying to see the aquariums, and there were only a few enclosures that felt a bit too cramped. My favourite area was definitely the jellyfish area, not only because they're objectively cool, but because you can change the colour with the light. The only problem I have with this place is that their token machine has a problem with credit cards. The person I was travelling with tried to buy two tokens using her card, but the machine made her pay for four despite the fact that she had...
Read moreI want to give a full review so you know what to expect from your visit. I had done research before booking, so I knew what to expect and gave my kids the correct expectation.
First. This is a discovery center, not a theme park. My 8 year old asked if it was going to be like Dollywood, and I told her it would be closer to the Children's museum. Which is what your expectation needs to be. The 2 rides are for kids.
This is not a place for AFOL. This is a place for KIDS. My 4 and 8 year olds had a blast.
I saw reviews where people were upset about not being able to get in without a kid. Again. It is a kid's discovery center. An adult would not have fun without a kid. And it's for the safety of kids, just like at a children's museum.
My kids loved the play area. You do need socks to play. The Cafe does sell them for $1, which is reasonable compared to other places I've been to that require socks. But bring socks if you want to save.
The 4d movie is super kid friendly. It was cute, and my kids laughed the whole time.
My kids did get the discovery pack, and I felt like for my kids, it was worth the $7. But my kids like to checkmark things as they go and get a prize at the end. So if this isn't what your kids like, then it might be best to skip. My daughter especially liked working through the pack and reading all of the fun facts.
We did opt for VR, which my kids also loved.
We also did milk and cookies with Lego Santa. Those cookies are fantastic.
Cafe prices are on par for museum type places.
Overall my kids had an awesome time. I didn't feel like we were constantly being asked to pay out more and more. Just keep in mind. It's basically a Lego children's museum. The kids said it was the coolest place ever.
Hope this helps anyone...
