I hope this was a rare occurrence as this place used to be a crown jewel to stay. Don't get me wrong, some of it is very beautiful with a great location. It was over 100 degrees out, and the A/C in the room wasn't working. It smelled musty due to a lack of air flow. I called down to let the front desk know, and I waited for a half hour before I called again. As I was waiting, I noticed food on the floor. It looked as if the room hadn't been throughly cleaned.
A few minutes later, I heard someone trying to open my door. I thought it was maintenance but was confused as to why they wouldn't knock. Suddenly, two other guests walked into my room. We looked at one another with great confusion as there was no way that my room could be given to someone that quickly as I had asked to switch rooms only five minutes prior to them walking in.
I called back down to the front desk with no one answering. After a few minutes, someone picked up, and I explained what else just happened. I said I no longer felt safe staying here or keeping my items in the room if someone else can walk in. They offered to have a security guard take me to a new room, but I explained I was more concerned about others walking into my room while I was sleeping or out of the room. No suggestions were offered other than they were going to take care of the other guests. Despite being frustrated, I kept my poise and asked what they were going to do for me as my room was hot, smelly, and dirty, and I was very close to going elsewhere. They finally offered a free night which was appreciated, but I hope no one has to go through what I did.
In my new room, the mini fridge wasn't working, and I just gave up. There was hair on the bathroom floor, wallpaper coming off the walls, and nowhere to store my drinks. Not a huge deal, but after paying a significant amount per night, and while staying at many other Marriott's, this one is clearly outdated and needs attention. The pros: beautiful view at night, great location, and some very friendly staff. Food was not the greatest, especially for the price, but it was part of the "resort fee" - use...
Read moreWhen I arrived to attend a conference after a long day of traveling, I stood in line 30 minutes or more waiting to get the key to the room. Once I got to the room (11th floor) with all of my luggage for the week, the key would not open the door. I tried everything and it would not open. I called the front desk and the phone just rang and rang and rang. Kept calling until finally someone answered. I sat on the floor outside of the room waiting on a security guard to come let me in. He said the battery was dead on the key lock and that is why the key didn’t work. He said someone would have to come replace the battery and if I left the room, I wouldn’t be able to get back in until they fixed it. He said that apparently the batteries in doors all over the hotel were needing to be replaced that day. I called the front desk again later that night and they promised someone was coming up to fix it within the hour. They never came. The next morning as I was leaving the room to head to the conference, I checked again and it still didn’t work. I went back to the front desk and told them about the issue again. They were very snarky about it and said they would put in a work order. What happened to the two previous work orders??No urgency, no apology. For a hotel that costs this much per night, I would expect better. Being able to access your room in a hotel is kind of important. I could have received better service, a complimentary breakfast, free WiFi, water and a better night’s sleep at the place down the road. Guests should not have to call and wait on a security guard every time they need to access their room. That key lock should have been fixed the first night. Absolutely ridiculous. This issue caused me to miss the checkin for the conference and a dinner out with co-workers on the Riverwalk. I had not been to San Antonio in a really long time and had been looking forward to it. After having a medical emergency and not being able to access my room, I left...
Read moreTerrible Experience - Avoid This Hotel*
I recently stayed at this hotel in San Antonio, Texas, with my wife and daughter to celebrate her 5th birthday, and unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory.
From the moment we arrived, things started to go wrong. I was required to pay a deposit, which I expected, but after providing my debit card, unexpected charges began appearing for services I never requested. We used valet parking for one day because we had a lot of stuff in our SUV and didn't want the hassle of parking and unloading. The next day, I informed the valet staff that I only needed the service for one day, but they continued to charge me for valet services for the entire stay.
When we finally got to our room, it was unbearably hot at 75 degrees. In Texas weather, this is unacceptable, especially when you're paying good money for a hotel room. My wife called the front desk, and they assured us that someone would fix the AC while we went out to the River Walk. However, when we returned, the room was still 75 degrees and just as uncomfortable as before.
I went to the front desk to request a new room. A staff member provided us with a different room, but the AC situation was no better. The following day, my wife spoke with a manager who apologized and offered us a credit for dinner. However, this "credit" was nothing more than a false promise – just another way for them to take our money without delivering any real service.
When it was time to check out, I was shocked to find that I had a balance of $300, despite having paid for the hotel months in advance. This hotel not only failed to provide basic services but also overcharged us at every turn.
Our stay at this hotel was a complete disappointment. It reflects poorly on all hotels in the San Antonio River Walk area. We will never return to this hotel, and I advise others to steer...
