Unfortunately left this location disappointed and dissatisfied. My partner and I spent nearly an hour here with about 15-20 minutes of that timeframe actually eating. The rest spent waiting. Onion tower appetizer tasted like pure grease/batter, myself and my partner had no desire to finish them and left more than half of the tower to be thrown away. The chicken tortilla soup was decent, though I probably wouldn’t order it again— its creamy base reminded me of eating a queso dip with tortilla chips. The main plates were average if not below average compared to what they cost and how long we waited for them to come out. My burger was greasy to the point that the bottom bun was mushy/falling apart and my fries were unseasoned/unsalted. The whiskey glazed salmon plate was overall lacking in flavor. My partner was also missing a side, and when informing one of the servers who brought us our food, the server was quick to respond very matter of fact “that’s not how it was written on our ticket.” The tone and response just came off very passive. We didn’t write the ticket. A simple “okay, we’ll get that right out” would’ve sufficed. After getting our plates, we ate as quickly as possible and paid the bill. We honestly just wanted to leave, and I wish we would’ve decided on doing so before forcing ourselves to eat anything after the appetizer. Our waitress was kind enough to offer to cover our appetizer cost or provide us with another food item to take home due to our long wait (and most likely our meals having been forgotten about), but she was unaware that we’d already paid. We would’ve gladly accepted to have something taken off our bill sooner, and we appreciated the offer for food/dessert, but declined. It wouldn’t have been worth it to wait any longer or to take home something inedible. Though, I’ve enjoyed other yardhouse locations in previous visits, I’ll be weary of returning...
Read moreYARD HOUSE is a great pit stop when at the River Walk
Yard House is probably the best pit stop for beer lovers visiting the River Walk. There’s no doubt San Antonio has its share of wonderful breweries and watering holes, but if you’re visiting the city, most likely you’ll spend some time wandering through the River Walk, and Yard House is the perfect place for knocking back a few cold ones.
The highlight is the huge assortment of beers on tap. Just having a look at those nozzles will make every beer enthusiast happy. There are all kinds of beers from around Texas, the US, and beyond, but probably, the focus on truly local breweries falls a bit short of expectation. Anyhow, you’ll hardly have any trouble finding a beer suitable to your taste and mood.
Regarding food, it is pub-oriented, and I would rate it “pub-good” also, with a marked focus on burgers, sandwiches, and chicken wings. Portions are plenty, grilled food is well-cooked, greens are fresh and crisp, and chicken wings are far from skinny; overall, a tasty experience.
Service is not what you would call friendly, but still responsive, agile, and courteous –from hostesses to servers. Hard to explain but, though I did not find an actual flaw or complaint, it was hard for me to tip 20%.
The downside to the experience (just a way to call it, though no big deal actually) is probably the venue. It felt somehow dispirited, however, probably due to the day and time when visited. Yard House, although next to the Riverwalk, does not have what you would call a scenic view. And the place is a bit tricky to reach from the Riverwalk and from the shopping plaza, so better access through Yard House’s main entrance on...
Read moreI’ve been going to Yardhouse for years I typically visit the one to La Cantera since it’s right up the street from me. Usually the food is delicious as well as the drinks however last night wasn’t the case at all. I visited the downtown the location for the first time ever last night after work and since the other location I figured I’d be in the for the same experience since it is the same restaurant man I was wrong! To start off I ordered a smoked old fashioned this is my go to so I’m very familiar with how they taste they delicious the one I ordered last night was beyond watered down didn’t even taste like the same liquor was even used, ordered another one and still the same watered down for $15 bucks is unacceptable. I had the sliders for an appetizer which again are usually good but not from here they weren’t seasoned at all very mediocre presentation plus the fries weren’t even salted. My girlfriend had the boneless wings which is her go to beyond greasy which typically they aren’t and way under seasoned as well. Server was good but the food isn’t what I expect from Yardhouse I won’t be ever be visiting this location again. Didn’t even taste the same at all from La Cantera the food I was eating tasted like it wasn’t even from the...
