On Christmas day, I decide do take my entire family (five of us) to the theater. I go online to purchase tickets for Wonder Woman. I wanted to check availability (seating) online. It took me about a half hour to navigate and secure tickets for seating, as most had been sold out (considering holiday). I get to the main AMC near the old comedy club, where I've come for years (Premium Member GOLD). Turned out my tickets were for the IMAX (after checking with reception), bigger screen, generic seating, inflated price. I walk across the mall, as IMAX is literally in a entirely different area. I check in with the attendant there (at BLOCKED entrance to IMAX lobby). I then proceed to seat my family of 5. My daughter comes with me to get food. I get to register, and before I could tell the teller what I would like from the expensive menu of general snacks, I am asked, "are you here for tickets or concession." I said, "huh, if you mean food...yes." I mean, why else would I be standing there? After all, it was a sold out showing. Pretty sure all showings where that early Christmas afternoon (thinking to myself). Mind you, we are in a Pandemic and seating is even more limited, as the result of social distancing. As I glanced back at the FOOD/SNACK Menu, I am rapidly told (by different employee), my half (secure) face mask is not excepted there and only the partial mask that barely covers my face is. Again, upon proceeding to peacefully glance at the food display, I am once again interrupted. This time in a rude and condescending way. "Do you have tickets!" I am asked, by different employee. I mean, at this point I am ready to get a refund and go home. I humbly tolerate the level of rude and ignorant line of questioning. Once again, I am here for food. I mean, why else would I be there? To get there, you need to check in at a blocked entry way and there isn't a list of movies at the concession stand. So after being literally herased with nonsense, I proceed to purchase two large popcorns with the addition of the bundled drinks and a order of cheese sticks (that took forever to get) for a whopping $41+. For the price I spent on tickets and snacks, I should not have to deal with that level of ignorance. I mean, if the 1st teller gave me at least half a minute to tell him what I wanted, all their questions would have been answered. Instead of teaming up on me, as if I snuck* into the theater to watch a movie that I did not pay for. Yet I'm going to pay a rediculous amount of money at the concession. I am 41 and my 13 year old daughter was with me, you be the judge. I would think buying tickets online, would be easier. Turns out, I have to prove I have tickets to more than two different attendants, and even at the concession stand. So much for innovation. Not worth the trouble or my money. I will never go to the IMAX theater...

AMC has new sliders that taste amazing! I recommend getting the one that has flavored beer. It really gives you a good Buzz ( side not, I recommend ordering two orders of that particular slider to get that good Buzz ) and makes you feel Really good. It also really helps out when watching a movie.

THEY DO VALIDATE PARKING IF YOU'RE GOING TO WATCH A MOVIE, YOU JUST NEED TO ASK.THE AMC IS INSIDE THE SHOPPING MALL & HAS TO LOCATIONS WITH IN THE MALL, ONES CALLED AMC IMAX MOVIE THEATER & THE OTHER IS AMC MOVIE THEATER. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO DO SOME WALKING TO GET TO EITHER LOCATION, BUT IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT. A LOT OF GREAT ITEMS BETWEEN BOTH LOCATIONS BECAUSE YOU'RE IN A GREAT MALL IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS IN DOWNTOWN AREA. I TOOK SOME PICTURES HOPEFULLY YOU GET AN IDEA OF WHERE TO GO. I AM ALSO A MEMBER OF THE AMC A-LIST WHICH BY THE WAY I RECOMMEND GETTING TO GET IN & OUT AS POSSIBLE & GETTING GREAT DISCOUNT ALONG THE WAY. It’s really sad to see how much the AMC theater in downtown San Antonio (Rivercenter) has declined. I’ve been visiting this location for years, but the quality of the experience has gotten worse every time.
🔧 Facilities in Disrepair The theater is outdated and not well-maintained. Many seats are broken or uncomfortable, and the auditoriums are often messy. Cleanliness is clearly not a priority—sticky floors, spilled drinks, and overflowing trash cans have become the norm.
🥤 Poor Concession Management The self-serve drink machines are frequently out of stock or not working at all. For a place charging premium ticket and concession prices, this is simply unacceptable.
🙁 Unprofessional and Rude Staff What’s worse is the customer service. Several attendants and even managers have treated guests with visible indifference and, at times, outright rudeness. There’s no sense of hospitality or appreciation for patrons. That alone can ruin the experience before the movie even starts.
🚗 Parking Details (Important!)
The mall offers 3 hours of free parking with ticket validation, but be careful—if you stay even slightly past that, you will have to pay.
For disabled individuals, there is a city-operated parking lot across the street, at the corner west of the theater, which offers free parking for those with valid handicap plates or placards. This is a helpful option, though not affiliated with AMC.
🛍️ Location Is the Only Plus The one remaining benefit is the theater’s location: you can shop, dine, and catch a movie in one stop. That’s the only reason I still occasionally come here—but even that convenience is starting to feel like it’s not worth it.
📣 Bottom Line: This theater used to be a great place to enjoy a film downtown, but now it feels neglected and disrespects its customers. If AMC doesn’t invest in cleaning it up, fixing the equipment, and training the staff properly, they’re going to lose loyal...
