It has been 2 years since our remodel and we are still so happy! We feel very lucky having worked with Charles and Marie! We heard nightmare stories from friends and co-workers about their remodels using other contractors - such as delay after delay which cost them money, poor quality and workmanship, poor communication, taking on too many projects at one time, and mountains of frustrations - we were very careful about selecting contractors when it was our turn.
Friends of ours selected Charles and Marie for their remodel and we were so impressed hearing about their experience working with Cairns Craft that other friends in our group used them also. After 3 friends used them and all the experiences we heard were positive, we knew we had to use them and did not bother looking anywhere else.
The best recommendation is referrals - and we have since referred several friends (without hesitation) to Marie and Charles.
They are true professionals. Our remodel was extensive - to the point where we had to move out for 3 months. They finished on time and the quality of the work was excellent! They had subs for their subs in the event one could not make it. Issues were bound to come up, and some did, but they handled these and worked with us for a good outcome.
They were very particular with quality and cleanliness and make a point of keeping the job site clean and protecting our belongings and property.
Two years after our remodel, we asked them to help with adding a hand shower to the bathroom. During our remodel, they asked us if we would like this option (while the walls were open, would have been easy to add in), but we chose not to do this. We regret that decision now as my husband became very ill and needed help bathing for a while ... a hand shower would have helped a lot. Although it was a small job, Marie came back and helped us add a hand shower and grab bar ...it looks amazingly stylish and fits with the bathroom!
Cairns Craft is one of a kind!
One word of advice, to keep everything on time during your remode, YOU as the client will need to respond quickly when they are requesting input. This was a little difficult as my husband and I both work a lot, but we traded off, back and forth, and worked with Marie to keep things moving.
We highly recommend...
Read moreThe bath/shower in my master was oversized (over 24 inches high) and at age 84 I could not safety get in and out of the tub. Therefore, I wanted to convert it into a walk-in shower. I had the good fortune to be recommended to Cairns Craft Design and Remodel for this project. Cairns Craft did outstanding work and were able to complete the project in an amazing one-week period in order to meet my travel schedule. They were able to accomplish this even though Covid19 hit right in the middle of the project. Marie Cairns, who coordinated the daily process, was there each day to assure that the crew maintained the prescribed six-foot distance and made use of face masks and gloves. She also followed up each day to assure that the work area and the rest of the house were left in a clean and orderly fashion sent me daily pictures of the progress so I could follow the day to day progress whether I was in town or not. . Drop cloths were used to protect all floors and adjacent furniture. All in all, it was a very professional job. I was pleased with how the design was developed to meet my every future need. Grab bars and a fold down seat provide for increased mobility. An additional flexible handheld shower head provides for convenience of use while sitting or standing. I was particularly pleased with the thermostatically controlled heat valve. This valve (handle) sets the desired heat so that when you start a shower the on/off handle only turns the water on or off. The heat is constant each time you turn the water on until you change it on the Thermo valve. There is no chance of stepping into an overly hot shower. I have always felt that the success of a general contractor is measured by the quality of his or her subcontractors. The Cairns Craft subcontractors were outstanding. They were on time. They were courteous and respectful of the client. They cleaned up at the end of each day and at the end of the job. And they really did a great job is their...
Read moreWe evaluated several design-build firms and a number of bathroom redesign stores, and are very glad we chose Cairns Craft. A few of the key differences: Charles Cairns told us the process and price right away. It was fair and aboveboard during the whole project, no games, no surprises. Luz is a BRILLIANT designer. She came up with so many clever solutions for our small space and solved problems that no one else had any idea how to solve. These days, the bathroom is beautiful. Everything is easily tucked away in drawers and cabinets instead of out on the counter because there’s nowhere else to put it. Cairns listened to us and learned what we liked. We wanted something colorful and beautiful and fun, and strongly did not want what I call “Rancho Santa Fe Tuscan.” Other firms we talked to would say sure, they could do anything, and then show us a bunch of pictures of... Rancho Santa Fe Tuscan. Marie is an attentive project manager and insists on quality. There were very few problems during the process, and when there were she worked overtime to solve them fast. Cairns hires great people. I would trust every one of them with a key to my house. They were honest, resourceful, friendly, respectful, and incredibly competent.
We had a complex redesign project. If it had been a very simple one, like just replacing the floor tile or a shower, then we could probably have been quite happy with one of the turnkey solutions that is in and out in three days. With a project like this, which was down to the studs and floorboards, it would have been a disaster, a nightmare, to have tried to do it ourselves without the level of skill and dedication we got from Cairns....
