our family loves escape rooms! although it is an expensive hobby, it is worth all the memories and the teamwork that happens in just one hour. we have only one room left to do at escape game san diego (prison break), so it’ll be a bummer once we complete them all, but i heard they are opening a new one up in UTC (la jolla) with new rooms, so even more fun to be had. this time around, we took our friends & their kids as first timers and they had so much fun! (we had kids ranging from 6yr to 13 yes) we made it out with time to spare with the help of nichelle, our game master! special ops was a great room. always love how immersed you get in the room, the technology they have to create the story, and the variety of puzzles they provide. we only needed 3 clues and the last 2 was because we were in panic mode with only 10 minutes left. it was a great experience for everyone, another pin added to my collection. trying to convince them to do prison break with us in the future. if you love puzzles, give them a try.
UPDATE (7/3/25):
we were able to complete our last room here at this location with the same group (2 families of four) as before and WE ESCAPED! eric was our gamemaster and he helped us to move forward without giving too much away. we tried to use no hints, but needed a couple to ensure we made it out.
what i love about ALL THE ROOMS at the escape game is how immersed you are for the 60 minutes (or less) you are in - the story line, the decor, and even the puzzles are well thought out. we have been to 4 different locations in so cal and i can say they are all great. the staff are friendly & welcoming. i love the collectible pins you can purchase (i have a total of 7 now). now i must wait for the la jolla location to open. thank you to the escape game for keeping our escape game...
Read moreOur group played Special Ops last night and had a blast! We escaped with a good amount of time left but that was largely due to a bit of luck on our part as this room was a bit tougher than we expected for our experienced group of 4 and can definitely see how it earned it's 8/10 difficulty. It isn't the number of puzzles that will get you but rather the complexity behind some of them. Regardless, each puzzle and the clues for them made complete sense and a little help from your GM goes a long way in this room.
Elle, our GM, was quirky and helpful while we played through the room. The best part was the fact that whenever we asked for a hint, Elle wouldn't just give us the answer but rather an actual, solid hint that would push us in the right direction. She made it so we didn't give up the awesome feeling of figuring out each puzzle as we went and took the time to further explain some of the once we finished so it made more sense. Her upbeat personality and attitude made this fun game that much better and we will happily be figuring out when to come back for the last 2 rooms we have left to do at this location.
For those looking to do an escape room at this location, keep in mind the rating in this room is no joke! It will challenge you so I don't recommend it if you are new to the experience. The Escape Game has plenty of awesome and fun rooms for those with less experience and you will have a great time regardless or whatever room you pick. Don't be afraid to ask for hints and, if possible, take advantage of the huge discount you get for booking back to back rooms on...
Read moreThe Escape Game is our favorite escape room venue. Today we wrapped up our fifth and final Downtown San Diego room with Special Ops. Every room has here been amazing with unmatched production value. Every game master we’ve had here has been excited from the moment we walked into facility to the second we escaped the rooms. Today we showed up a little early (820am on a Sunday!) and were animatedly greeted by Jabari, our final game master. He gave us the typical rundown and set us off to play the game. When we finally escaped, he was almost more excited than we were and kindly complimented us on our successfully solving a few particularly tricky puzzles. Jabari provided a nice ego boost and his genuine joy and excitement reminded us how fun these escape rooms can be for everyone involved. While we’re out of rooms to try at the Downtown San Diego space, we’re excited to hear a new set of rooms are being setup in La Jolla at UTC later this summer. Can’t wait! (Pro tip: if you’re a single or couple and would rather not share a room, we recommend trying to book an early morning escape game. Each room verbally supports up to 8 people and when you book only a few slots, the rest remain open and another party of strangers can join you. We like to run the rooms with just two of us, so by booking our escapes for early morning - 830-9am time slot usually. We have never had to share the room with...
