Things I liked about this hotel: beautiful clean hotel at a good price the front desk staff were very friendly, especially the gentleman on overnight shift when we arrived at midnight convenient location - Union Square is a great area and it was walking distance to places we wanted to go like the Ferry Building breakfast in the morning at the bar - coffees and pastries available for purchase
Much has been said in the reviews about the homeless population. I would compare what I saw here in Union Square to what you’d see any day in Times Square in NYC. I did not feel unsafe in any way, but if your sensibilities are such that you can’t handle even seeing someone homeless, then maybe that’s something you should be thinking about.
One thing to know is that the showers (at least the one we had) have an adjustable head that doesn’t easily stay in the right position. The position it eventually found an equilibrium was one that tended to spray water toward the side of the shower that was not covered by glass. It didn’t absolutely drench the bathroom but you have to be careful because it does tend to make the floor wet.
We did experience one minor upset in terms of the service. We stayed 3 nights, arriving midnight the first night. They have a policy that rooms are not serviced every day, which I have seen in other hotels, but that you can request clean towels etc. The first day we didn’t get service, and slept another night. By this time we did hope for clean towels due to some drenching due to the aforementioned shower problem. On the way out for the day, we told the woman cleaning rooms that we would like a little service eg the bins emptied and new towels. We got back at 3 pm and it had not been done. We called down to the front desk and said that we had not been serviced but we would like towels at least if possible - after a little back and forth about when they could be available, we stated that we’d like them around 5 pm because we were about to lie down for a nap. Not 20 minutes into our nap we had a knock on the door awakening us from someone trying to give us towels. Not the worst thing to happen but it seemed like this comedy of errors could have been avoided if there was clear understanding on the part of service staff. However I still consider this a great experience overall and just wanted to write this to tell others in advance what to expect in terms of...
Read moreStay Pineapple Hotel Z – Stylish Convenience That Overpromises and Underdelivers I recently spent six nights at Stay Pineapple Hotel Z, and while the hotel had its highlights, the overall experience left me questioning its value.
🌟 The Good The staff was wonderfully friendly and genuinely helpful—shoutout to the team member who recommended an amazing local pizza spot! The filtered water station was a standout feature, offering still, sparkling, and hot water at any time. This thoughtful touch added a sense of comfort and sustainability. The hotel’s location is unbeatable—close to everything and perfect for both leisure and business travelers. Free drinks were a nice gesture, but the pass only covered two days of our six-night stay, which felt like a missed opportunity for extended hospitality.
💸 The Questionable As one of the conference hotels, pricing seemed elevated without a proportional boost in amenities or comfort. The room was disappointingly small—so much so that it felt tighter than a college dorm. Navigating around the bed with luggage was awkward due to minimal clearance. The lighting setup was poorly suited for video conferencing, which is a shame for a business-oriented stay. The lack of storage space—no closet, no iron, no ironing board—made it clear the room was meant for short stints, not extended stays. The shower was narrow to the point that standing comfortably with arms at your sides felt cramped. Accessing the bed was hindered by a TV mounted in the most inconvenient spot, leaving you to contort around it. The two separate comforters and absence of a top sheet were more puzzling than practical.
🐾 Pet-Friendly… Maybe Too Much While it’s great that the hotel welcomes pets, that meant guests were subjected to the sounds of barking dogs left alone in rooms, which chipped away at any sense of tranquility.
🎯 Final Takeaway Stay Pineapple Hotel Z gets a few things right—great staff, stellar location, and premium water access—but the lack of space, odd room design, and minimal amenities make it hard to justify the high cost. It may suit a quick overnight or two, but for a longer stay, expect discomfort...
