To me, this is one of the most happiest places on Earth! However, I've only been to 7 other convention centers and the main reason I go to the San Diego convention center and other convention centers is because of Comic-Con gatherings and occasionally an auto show, so take this review with a grain of salt if you are not a Comic-Con nerdo supremo like mwah.
Why is this place the happiest place on earth? To me it's the happiest place on Earth because as a lifelong nerdo who loves comics, video games, art, movies, shows, anime, collectibles, nerd gear and cosplayers there is no better place to experience this then at the San Diego comic convention.
I have now been going consistently for over a decade, and the earliest date I attended was back in 1993 when I was visiting my grandparents, so I've been going for quite a while! I honestly don't remember if the 1993 convention was at the San Diego convention center but I do know I've been going for quite a while and every time I go there it fuels my nerd passion and is truly the happiest place and time of year.
The convention center itself is very large, and to me, it seems larger than the Los Angeles convention center or the Anaheim convention center, although I think I heard the Anaheim center might be slightly larger? I am not sure about this as they pack so much entertainment into the San Diego convention center and it can take near a day to walk from one side of the floor to the other if you're stopping at every Booth to see what they have. During the 2022 convention, my fiancee and I actually took 3 days getting across the floor because we kept getting distracted by other things such as signings and wristbands to obtain exclusives or other signings.
On top of the convention floor itself, there are many rooms and halls where panels are located. Some of the best panels take place in the hall h and ballroom 20, but I've also seen some of my favorite entertainers ever, such as Bruce Campbell in smaller rooms which was much more intimate. There is also the sails pavilion which has an open air feel to it even though it is inclosed but by glass. There's also a parking garage located underneath.
During San Diego Comic-Con I see a diverse crowd of people from many walks of life and we're all there for the same thing, our passions! It truly is one of the greatest places in the world and if you have never been to San Diego comic Con I highly suggest you try to get into it so you can see this convention center in its might!
The only gripes I ever have about the San Diego convention center is the staff that they hire to work it seems new every year and there's always a bit of confusion involved. I do not blame the staff themselves as it is an overwhelming experience in an out of control amount of people so it's brutal what they are tasked to keep up with. The bathrooms can get lines going out the doors but if you know the floor well you can always find an open bathroom if you know the right spots. As far as food on site most of it is fast food located on the convention floor or pretzel/cookie vendors or Starbucks.
Truly an amazing place!!!! Can't wait for 2023!!!!
Update: It's 2024, and SDCC 2024 is in full swing, and it's still the most amazing place in the world at this time...
Read moreIn order to experience a great place first we have to dig into how the magic happens. This place has the most high jacked minds that are on programs for the easily influenced. Comic-con is great but the staff starts attacking you if they have seen you attend the convention to many times. Sodexo is heavily influenced by the marines and the rest law enforcement for a better chance to attend or higher paying jobs. Women here will find your name and then use Sodexo to contact Camp Pendleton and the rest use the police force for no reason and use false claims so their friends have a better chance of corporate take over and if to many people see the trend then hire people from back east. CEO replaced his CFO for better protection. This place is under qualified for San Diego as Hollywood is what brings the magic and law enforcement shows. Locals are all told not to approve of major construction because they will pocket your tax money and start to kick people out. They only hire dependents or poor kids for a better quid pro quo favors and to show only the two class system of rich or poor. Higher paying employees are on a defense program so they can sleep with the low pay employees. I’m constantly told I’m stalked by this place. This is why most conventions have a bad feeling about it as they will start hurting you if they notice you attend often. I enjoy attending but that’s because the educated is what brings the fun but then San Diego convention center staff comes in and ruins it. Most of the departments have only worked there and have not attend school or achieved anything higher than a A.A or A.S, as very few actual degrees and use delusional thoughts till proven wrong by lawyers but the lawyers are attacked by military and law enforcement strings that get pulled. The reason this is a great place is because of the clients not the host. Their future goal for them is one race runs all the conventions and shows as the highest race of the melting pot hold conventions and all other need to leave because they are to rural. One of the comments were said in San Diego, “white people are stupid!” And I’m starting to believe them. At the car show they’ll start telling people who they think can or can’t afford their cars. My favorite thing to see is do what that whole company does and guesses who can or can’t afford a car and try to tell people if they can afford the cars then your word of mouth isn’t good enough as that is the best advertisement. When they randomly told me that in my suit I went to another dealership as I was in the market for a car and got my new car somewhere else. The ideology of this place is guess random names that they want to see fail, make everyone believe that having a house is ultimate power so they can have more sex slaves, and pretend there is only poor and rich. If you don’t believe me compare their wages from a normal worker to a supervisor pay and see the unfair difference with...
Read moreHUGE VENUE w/ WONDERFUL ARCHITECTURE! The San Diego Convention Center is made for large cons and massive events. It's an iconic San Diego staple and it's literally world-renowned for it's yearly hosting of Comic Con International. It's currently my favorite con venue in California as it's so clean, spacious, and has wonderful ocean views. It's such an incredible experience getting to view Coronado and the embarcadero harbor when I step out or look through a window!
The convention center has amazing halls, rooms, and ballrooms. My personal favorites are the elegant Ballroom 20 and massive Sails Pavilion. Ballroom 20 holds large cosplay events and masquerade competitions while being able to sit hundreds and hundreds of fans! The Sails Pavilion is a central hub where booths, tables, and large crowds bustle. I love the sail structures, they're so unique and pretty, this place has a lot of character!
SDCC also has smaller rooms in the upper levels for more intimate panels and meetings. Of course, many favor the larger rooms like the formidable Hall H, but it's not my personal preference. Hall H is cool and famous for a reason for hosting Marvel, Amazon, DC and other studios, however it's the only hall in the entire convention center that has obstructed viewing. For instance, there's these pillars that stick out in the middle of the audience floor that make it hard to see for some and completely block one's line of vision. Other than Hall H, every other space is perfect!
The convention center has many entrances and exits! Lots of options depending on the event you're here for. Overall, this venue is quite accessible with several ramps and escalators for disabled attendees. Escalators and stairs are also scattered throughout the venue. I recommend taking the stairs to avoid crowd congestion.
Convention food is okay, not the best but definitely serviceable! Also, there's Starbucks inside now, yes a LEGIT Starbucks! My coffee lovers will truly appreciate it. There's plenty of eateries in the surrounding area and hotels if you're here for a multi-day convention. Parking is kinda pricey it can range anywhere from $30-$60 around here. Public transportation is nearby aka the metro...
