Me, my husband, my sister, and one year old spent Fourth of July weekend here. We stayed for three nights. We got in at about 12pm on July 4th and there was minimal traffic which was nice, considering it was a holiday. They allowed us to check in early. Check in was easy and I appreciated actually speaking to a person versus using a kiosk or phone check in. The staff was friendly throughout our stay. The pool was heated and the jacuzzi was nice, but they were both smaller. Location, if you want to see a game or go to Gaslamp was convenient. The restaurant they had was good, we ordered a burger and nacho fries for room service at 10pm and it was delicious. However, parking was a pain!
They do not have their own parking, unless you valet (at 65$ a night), which is insane not to mention I don’t like people driving my car. However they do have a parking garage across the street (K &6 parking garage). It was not that big of a deal for us to walk across the street and it only cost 24$ a day to park.
Now, on Friday we left and went to Sea World, and came back in the evening and there was a baseball game going to start, so traffic was a pain getting to the hotel. We pulled into one entrance of the parking garage after sitting in traffic for 20 minutes (where signage said hotel guests) and they turned us away and said to use a different entrance…. Okay, so we went around the block, sat in traffic, and used the second entrance and they let us in. My fault for not checking the baseball game schedule and planning accordingly.
Then, on Saturday we went out to the beach and came back in the evening and again, there was a game going on. (I had no idea they played 3 games back to back.) Again, we sat in traffic and got to the entrance we used the day prior (with signage for pre-paid and hotel guests only) and they told us we could not park there, the lot was full. They wanted us to go down and park on market street (3 blocks away). At this point we drove down to the next parking garage, past the homeless people camped out on the curb, and the crazy foot traffic for the game, there was no way we were going to safely push a one year old in a stroller through the madness. We decided to go to the hotel and valet.
We explained we got turned away at the garage (which they said shouldn’t have happened). Another employee shared that it was a fluke thing, and the city owns the garage and over-sold and didn’t allocate enough parking for the hotel and it’s not affiliated with them. My complaint is, if that is where you’re directing your guests to park, then you are affiliated.
The reason for 3 stars is merely the parking issue. I will not stay at this hotel again because of the unpredictability of it and basically not being able to come and go without concern of finding a spot. If you’re going, just plan on parking and staying and not...
Read moreI hate to leave this, since we love the Omni hotel. We reserved a room for a couple of nights to celebrate our anniversary July 4th (corner bay view). When we did the reservation we asked if that room had a water view and they told us yes. The day of check-in we got there early. We talked to the front desk and they told us our room wasn't ready and we told them that was ok we want to use the pool and wait, (but my husband asked 3 times if our room have water view and they say yes) we left our suitcases and headed to the pool. When they texted us I headed to the front desk and grabbed the key and headed to the room. What a disappointment our room had a convention center view and no bay view. My husband and I went to the front desk again to the lines (the hotel was really busy) because the 4th of July weekend and the Padres game. We talked to the guy and he told us there is nothing he can do and if we wanted to talk to the manager and we said yes. She came over and we explained to her that we paid more for a room with a bay view and that it was for our anniversary. We mentioned that everyone assured us that our room had a water view (we explained everything) she told us that it is considered a bay view room. We told her there is no view of the bay (why we would pay more to look a the convention center) and that it was false advertising. She told us that all the room were booked and I told her that I don't want that room to get us a regular room because we were not going to pay a lot more to look at the convention center and she did. We mentioned to the manager that while we were in the pool a couple we were talking to mentioned that they got upgraded to a nice bay view room when they checked-in and they just paid for a regular room, (the managers response was do you have their room number and we told her we don't know them, that we were just talking to them). But after all that I was sad that our anniversary plans were ruined and we couldn't do what we planned. We were not expecting to get upgraded or any other special treatment. The only thing we wanted was the room we paid for with the view we asked for. We understand you were busy but do not advertise something you don't offer, those rooms are not bay view. We love this hotel and stayed there before. We try to stay there anytime we can while we are in CA. Your customer service is one of the best one, everyone is always nice and always trying to help. But I can't believe we got our anniversary messed up. We went to check out and found out 2 more people complained in line about the same thing we just...
Read moreTime for an interior renovation!! This place is old, run down, and not commensurate with a 4-Star hotel. The lobby is bright, clean and had a really pleasant fragrance that was pumped in. The main entrance is two large doors that are not automated and you there isn’t a door man and there are so many people coming in and out. The bellhops and valets were more interested in parking cars for the Padres games than helping guests.
The rooms were extremely disappointing!! First thing is the bathroom was about as basic as it comes. A single pedestal sink and shelves that look like the wood veneer has already peeled off. The shower had very low water pressure and the shower/tub combo is very outdated. The carpet was frayed and peeling back at the threshold. There are no accessible wall outlets for charging of phones, watches, etc…. The only outlets are behind the headboard and behind the TV entertainment stand. The plugs on the side of nightstands were extremely worn out and plugs would fall out easily. There wasn’t even a refrigerator!! Instead we had an empty mini-bar cooler. One the outside was a large sticker that stated it would not get cool enough for medication or food storage. Not to mention it required a key to open it that was broken. They did replace the key upon request.
The pool is a decent 6th floor rooftop pool with a nice view but that’s about it. The pool chairs are rock hard and the cushions are very old, look extremely worn out, and provide no comfort when laying down. You might as well lay directly on the wooden chair. Also, don’t expect any service while at the pool. The bar was closed at 5pm and a sign placed that said call for service. I called and was told there wasn’t anyone at the pool and if I wanted a drink or food that I needed to come to the lobby bar to order and then return to the 6th floor. That seems more than unacceptable to me.
The location in the Gas Lamp District and proximity to the Convention Center are the key benefits to this property. They do offer secure lobby access and elevator access with key cards likely due to the high volume of homeless individuals that are in the area as well as thousands of people crowding the area when baseball games are being played.
In my opinion, this property is well past its time for an interior renovation and quality upgrade, especially at the price point they are charging...
