We had a group of 10 people that we had reserved ahead of time. Our server was lovely, albeit a bit vacant. The appetizers were all really delicious, but it all fell apart shortly after that. I used to serve, so I’m generally quite tolerant of oversights, but our experience overall left us very…disappointed. Our reservation was for 7:00. By the time we had all arrived, it was quarter after. So if you’re generous on how long it took us to order, we ordered by 7:30. Latest. Now, 10 people is a fair number of people, but we didn’t just walk in off the street. We booked a good amount of time in advance, and the restaurant should have had enough time to make sure that they were adequately staffed for the reservation and the other tables they would have for the night. We received our appetizers quite promptly, but we didn’t receive our food until about 9:00 PM. It took literally an hour and a half to get our food from the time we ordered it. It took so long that one of our party had to leave before they even got their food in order to take care of their dog. There was even another party of 8 who ordered after us, and they were packing up their food by the time we had received ours. The server was apologetic and offered us salad while we were waiting, but by that time, we didn’t want to eat more food. We just wanted to get what we ordered and get out. I’m honestly surprised that the manager didn’t take the time to come over by that time and apologize. We got our food finally, but one member of our party didn’t even receive his order and ate the food of the person who had left because he didn’t want to wait any longer. I had ordered the lamb shank based on several reviews saying it was delightful. What I got looked like a blackened, shrivelled up piece of meat that wasn’t even hot - I think it sat under their heat lamp for maybe an hour (unfortunately it was dark in the restaurant and the photo didn’t turn out, but I’ll add it anyway). The asparagus was so so sad, not to mention there was enough rice pilaf to feed a starving family of 4, which I’m assuming was meant as an attempt to make up for the lack of quality, but just ended up being unbelievably wasteful.
My final comment was the gender neutral bathroom upstairs was horrifyingly filthy. I haven’t seen a toilet that disgusting since I was in university at the dive-y bars that we used to frequent, and I spend a lot of time in the outdoors in public outhouses, which is saying a lot. There was explosive poop all over the toilet, and the rings around the water line suggested they hadn’t cleaned the thing in at least a month.
Basically, I never want to go back here, and usually I tell my husband often you can’t decide if you like or dislike a place based on one experience. We’re not from san diego, so will not...
Read moreI recently dined at Meze in downtown San Diego, a Greek fusion spot that promised a creative twist on Mediterranean classics. The concept of blending Greek and other cuisines sounded exciting, but the execution was sloppy. Unfortunately, the experience was a letdown from start to finish. The ambiance was lackluster, with dim lighting and decor that felt more tacky than inviting.Service was slow and inattentive-our servers ( every time a different person showed up) seemed disinterested, and we waited over 20 minutes just to get water let alone the rest of the drinks we ordered. The real disappointment was the food. The menu boasted bold fusion dishes, but the execution was abysmal, especially the meat. We ordered Gyro Plate, Gyro Meze and Lamb Chop Meze, expecting tender, flavorful slices, but what arrived was dry, overcooked, and borderline inedible. The texture was rubbery, and it lacked any discernible seasoning, let alone the vibrant Greek flavors advertised. My wife's chicken souvlaki was no better-tough, stringy, and tasting like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for hours. The sides, watery tzatziki that tasted more like ranch dressing, the Greek salad was a sad pile of wilted lettuce with a few crumbles of feta and a dressing that was basically just cheap olive oil with no seasoning. The drinks were even worse; our ouzo Ploumari was so watered down it tasted like licorice-flavored tap water, and house wine was sour and flat. To top it off, they automatically slapped a 20% gratuity on the bill and 4% rising prices and costs fee on all credit card transactions despite lackluster service. Adding an automatic 20% gratuity for such a subpar experience felt like a slap In the face. Save your money and...
Read moreCame her for lunch midweek; easy to grab a table for a larger group, quick service with drinks, water, and food. Kort was a great server, friendly, introduced us to how the menu was divided, how to order to have enough food, and provided some great recommendations.
For meze plates (shareable small plates), we shared the Drunken Octopus, Saganaki, and Tomato Basil Hummus. The Octopus was exquisite, the red wine braise and seasoning provided so much flavor and it was cooked perfectly. The Saganaki is delightful to have delivered to the table with the tableside brandy flambee and then the cheese is delicious on the pita. The tomato basil hummus was quickly announced as the best hummus that most people at the table had had.
The lamb chops were lamb lollipops. The char and seasoning was delicious and the crispy potatoes provided a great compliment. Around the table, the entrees were declared to be delicious and satisfying and the portions were solid, resulting in half the group taking food home.
Nice selection of beer. Cocktails were on point and the Greek lemonade was a N/A favorite.
The atmosphere for the restaurant is great and during lunch the doors were all rolled up, opening the restaurant up to the patio and providing some nice fresh air. Definitely the best Greek food most of the...
