Hello porchetta! (pronounced pour - KEHT - tah) Don't you look and smell good spinning round and round, drawing everyone within aroma's radius in, and teasing us all with the image of that glistening pork skin while roasting away.
The Ferry Plaza market crowd is no bunch of fools. Tourists, locals, and regulars know good food. Come early to avoid the line. But the guys at Roli Roti work quickly. They have a separate line for chicken & potatoes, so that helps speed things along.
$10 Porchetta Sandwich: It doesn't take long to assemble the simple porchetta sandwich. Once they break down a pork roast, they simply stack porchetta, caramelized onion marmalade, and arugula, and done!
I love all the ingredients. That Acme bread loaf is so fresh and fluffy. It tastes good with nothing on it. But the hefty amount of bread almost interferes with the meat to bread ratio. I like caramelized onions and arugula separately. I can see how sweet and bitter are meant to balance each other, but can be a little strong in sweetness and bitterness respectively, so they competed with each other. Porchetta, the most important ingredient, is no doubt a delicious roast pig with various cuts and layers interspersed with crunchy skin and fragrant herbs. However some pieces of skin weren't so much crispy and crunchy as they were chewy and hard to bite through. Still, I can't deny that it is one hearty sandwich for $10 with great ingredients.
I'd still come back to try their other delicious roasted options. I may return to try the pork knuckle. At least I know the next time I visit, I'll enjoy watching the spinning meat drip delicious animal fat onto their...
Read moreWe ordered of course the porchetta sandwich and a 1/2 lb porchetta and 1/2 a roasted chicken. Each bite is just delicious. Very kind people serving the guests. Price point is just superb - the entire bill came to about $ 27. 1/2 a Mary's roasted chicken set you back - ready for this $ 7.5! Unbelievable price for San Francisco!
Well - this is our review for our trip on Oct 5th, 2023.. Same great quality sammy - just wonderful taste and texture. We ordered the usual suspect but also a small order of potatoes, a sous vide carnitas to take home and a pound of porchetta... So, here is the deal - unbelievable - the 1/2 chicken price has gone up by a whole 49 cents!!! What happens to the inflation? The sammy is $ 12 and here is the crazy bit - the carnitas - for 1.5 pounds, the cost is $10. These folks can charge probably 25-30% more and people will still be there. BTW - a long wait, people... 45 minutes in 80 F!!! Crazy...
Read moreThis has been a spot we’ve also been wanting to check out since seeing it featured on a couple food shows.
We went on Saturday morning and got in line at 10ish. Got to order at 1030. Chicken and Ribs weren’t ready, but that was fine as we wanted the Porchetta sandwich’s.
Anyway, the pork is absolutely delicious. It’s so tender and also has some nice crispy bits. Definitely the highlight. Also, the bread was super fresh. The onion jam was really good too.
The arugula? Half of it was yellow 🤮. It was super wilted from the heat as well. Definitely something that needs to be eaten right away.
Also it needed something acidic. Some pickled onions and something spicy would go a long way.
Nonetheless, we’re glad to have tried it. But for $15, I was expecting some more robust flavors. Next time we’d like to try the chicken, ribs...
