Robbed of $28 and a bit of dignity. We rented bikes in SF and rode all the way to Sausalito. Stunning views, great ride—10/10 would recommend. Then we tried to catch the Golden Gate Ferry back. We bought tickets from a machine, waited in line… and just as we’re about to board, a crew member stops us: “Your bikes (Grab and Roll) aren’t allowed on the ferry.” Wait, what?! Why? No idea. Apparently it’s a thing. Now, I don’t mind rules. But maybe—and hear me out—we tell people before they pay $28 that their bikes are persona non grata on board? This thing was wrote absolutely nowhere But it doesn’t end there. Oh no. I called customer service. First person? Clueless. Second person? Slightly less clueless—after some digging, she proudly tells me it’s written somewhere on their website. That’s great, except… I bought a paper ticket. In person. Like it’s 1998. Why would I check a website for hidden ferry bike rules? And for the grand finale: I’m offered a refund! (Yay!) …but only if I mail the tickets to them (yes, snail mail) and they’ll send me a check. A U.S. check. I live in France. A U.S. check in France is just a piece of paper. So let’s save the trees, skip the envelope, and just accept I paid $28 to be told “non merci” by a ferry.

The Golden Gate Ferry Terminal is your gateway to a nautical adventure! Picture this: the wind in your hair, the smell of the sea, and panoramic views of San Francisco's iconic skyline. This ferry terminal offers a smooth and scenic commute that’s both relaxing and invigorating. Hop on a ferry and wave goodbye to the traffic while you soak up stunning vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the bustling cityscape. Whether you're a local commuter or a tourist on a day trip, this ferry ride transforms a regular day into an extraordinary journey. Don't forget your camera – those Instagram likes won't gather themselves!

Very easy service over to Sausalito. The ferry was on time for departure and arrival. The ferry staff were all very friendly and loved a joke. I would use this service again. Note, make sure you buy your return ticket before you leave San Francisco dock as the Sausalito dock gets very busy and you risk missing your ferry.

My experience taking the ferry from Sausalito to the Embarcadero was less than satisfactory, in fact, for a company it was disgraceful. Upon lining up for the ferry, a staff member yelled to my foreign friend who does not understand English well, to line up next to a man in front of us. This would separate the two of us, which is no issue, except for the fact my friend felt it better to stay together. The staff member would not allow this, after moving his way through the line of pedestrians to shout at my friend to move forward. The apparent goal of this was to bring four people side to side on the gangway. While disembarking in SF, a crew member yelled at a father to keep his front bike tire out of the staircase. The father, presumably not understanding, stayed in the same spot. This very obviously angered the crew member who found it upon himself to come down the stairs and yell to the man, in his face nonetheless, to step back for safety reasons. A less angry attitude could have achieved the same result. The ferry at least passed by Alcatraz, which was pleasing to my friend and the other tourists. I would strongly advise not to take this ferry company. They seem to not care about dignity and...
