We brought a group of 16 to Smash City in San Jose to celebrate a birthday, and it was such a fun experience! We booked about 2 weeks in advance, and I’d recommend doing the same to secure your spot.
Things to know before you go: -Wear closed-toed shoes. They provide gloves, coveralls, boots, and face protection, so you’re fully geared up. -It does get hot in the gear and you’ll definitely work up a sweat, but the staff was kind enough to offer us water afterwards. -Arrive at least 20 minutes early (they’ll need time to get everyone to sign waivers and suited up).
What you can smash: On site, they had plenty of glass bottles, clay targets, and some larger items like barrels, tires, and metal pieces (not breakable, but still fun to take swings at). You can now bring your own breakables (glass, ceramic, or small wood furniture). We didn’t know about this ahead of time, but we were able to grab some extra items from the Goodwill about 5 minutes away, which made it even better.
Overall: The staff was super friendly and accommodating from booking to the end of our session. 30 minutes felt like plenty of time, especially with a group our size. My tips would be to book early and bring a few extra items to smash for variety.
Definitely recommend for birthdays, group outings, or if you just want to release some stress in a fun...
Read moreMy family and our friends went to Smash City to try it out. Our kids are about 15 years old so we thought they might like it.
When you get there you will put on cover-alls and gloves. Be prepared, the cover-alls are dirty from so many people wearing them and sweating in them. The gloves they provide are nitrile purple gloves then you wear work gloves over those. Before you go in the room, they provide a helmet for face/eye protection.
When you go in the room they have about 20 or so new bottles you can smash and old things like coffee makers, air filters and other random discarded items. They give you 30 minutes to smash things (and it is plenty of time)
One of the things you have to be aware of is the flying glass that lands in your hair. Our friends daughter had small shards of glass in her hair because the helmet does not over the top of your head (bring a hat)
Over-all, it was an experience. My wife and her friend left the room after about 10 minutes (it wasn’t for them). Our kids stayed the whole 30 min.
Would we go again ? Um probably not. It was something different to try. We actually enjoyed the axe throwing place next door (which I believe is associated to Smash City since the employees were walking to and from the axe...
Read moreI went to the Smash City Rage Room. When I was shown to the room, I was a bit disappointed. The advertisement shows a variety of items to Smash & break. But our room, had a bunch of glass bottles, a big rubber duck, the remains of a table & a mag wheel.
I'm sure strong men can Smash the mag wheel, but for the most part, the only thing to really Smash were the glass bottles.
I expected a variety of things like old computers & such. So, that was disappointing. But that being said, smashing the glass bottles was fun.
If I ever do this again,I would want more items to Smash. Sadly, we were done long before our half hour was up.
Also, you put on disposable rubber gloves & then garden gloves. I feel like bringing your own gloves is a better idea.
The one part we both really didn't like was the mask with a built in face shield. It kept fogging up, made it hard to breath & Go only knows how many people have worn it before us.
That mask was sweaty & even though I'm not weirded out by germs, I would have preferred to buy my own mask versus wearing that sweaty one.
But if I have the opportunity, I would do it again, just with...
