I would give it 5 stars if I was rating the old history that still exists here and what I enjoyed about my visit there. Unfortunately, it’s not a priority on upkeep for the island. I assume it would be costly to preserve it and bring it back to life. I am glad I went and saw the history that does still exist at this location. There’s no tourists there because it’s not listed as a top site to be seen (for obvious reasons) so it’s very peaceful and quiet. You can leisurely walk around at your own pace.
My favorite part of this park was the mosaic artwork in the sidewalk (I didn’t take pictures of them all). I know it had to be absolutely beautiful when it was first placed. It’s a must-see if you love old art. Who knows how long it will be there! Sadly, the lack of upkeep has prevented them from sustaining the weather / natural elements and visitors. You can see in my photos that pieces are missing and the colors have dulled over time.
There’s broken benches, fountains not running (I assume they don’t work), and other areas that were once nice are now just sitting. There’s statues around the park of important government and military officials. One has no name and a noose around his neck — I will have to look into why that was an important figure at the time. Several hens, roosters, and chickens roam around the park.
There’s a building in this park that I’m sure was beautiful a long, long time ago. I included one photo here, but I have additional photos I am posting separately on that landmark.
One current thing that is there, is a small kids area. They can play on the newer equipment. I didn’t think to take a picture of that.
My advice — go see it before...

Here's 3 Pros and 3 Cons of this park:
Pros
Parking was cheap $5 and if you are not afraid of a long walk or short jog you can get to Old San Juan or Downtown Condado within 10-20mins walking and save on parking. The park has wild chickens and roosters that you can feed and relax with and a beautiful play area for children I forgot to photograph. There are also pedestals with historic information that you can read about for those who love history.
Cons
If you don't like to walk of have handicaps that limit mobility it may be a difficult park to explore. You have to brave sometimes congested roads to get to the park. The park doesn't have water fountains or a public restroom. At least I wasn't able to locate it.

Read moreDilapidated, abandoned, dirty and very unsafe for children. The kids playground is rusted and unkempt and can definitely lead to injuries. I’m surprised no parents have sued the city for these unacceptable conditions in a children’s park. Do Puerto Ricans not know how to sue and stand up for their rights? This would never stand in the US. This should be closed until it’s fixed (would take millions) or demolished altogether. A complete shame and embarrassment that they sponsor this ‘park’ and tout it to tourists as a children’s park. Disgusting as usual. I’m finding out almost everything in Puerto Rico is abandoned and unsafe…especially things for children. If the government is so comfortable allowing citizens in this place without fear of a massive class action suit it means they know/think they can get away with anything....
