The concept of shoplifter profiling is a proven loss prevention tool and is currently being practiced at the Albertsons Market at 3542 Zafarano Dr. in Santa Fe by untrained loss prevention security staff. I was made to feel very uncomfortable and closely watched during my last visit to this Albertsons. I believe that as customers it is bad public relations if done crudely. I was followed and questioned for no reason except shopping while Black. Racial profiling is an improper and illegal practice based on the mistaken belief that certain ethnic groups are more likely to shoplift than others. Because of this, misguided store employees will focus their surveillance time on the customer's ācolorā rather than āconductā. Racial bias can blind store personnel and cause them to monitor only the ethic minorities and ignore the real source of their inventory losses. I brought it to the attention of the Manager and nothing was done. The only way to eliminate racial profiling is to prohibit it from the top. Retail stores need to have clearly defined and articulated policies against security staffers practicing racial profiling and must have a zero tolerance for abuse. The hiring process is a good time to screen out poor candidates that seem predisposed to prejudice. Comprehensive retail security training is absolutely necessary to assure that employees know how to do the job appropriately and understand the rules of conduct. During the training phase new loss prevention personnel should be taught how to observe customer conduct and not base surveillance decisions solely on the race of the customer. Supervisors should always be on the lookout for signs of racial prejudice in day-to-day conversation and in written reports. Violations should be addressed swiftly. If racial profiling becomes a factor in security staff surveillance and detentions, itās because store management didnāt care enough to correct the problem or instead chose to ratify the behavior. Please talk to the Management at the Albertsons Market about their failing to address my issue or better yet to not shop there until they address this issue and welcome customer of all creed and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis location is a less than desirable destination for groceries and customer service. The shelves always seem to be half empty and the isles are in a constant state of disarray that no one bothers to attend. I have been to this location on many occasions and have always been met with very rude or generally inattentive/unprofessional staff.
I have on more than one occasion tried to get something written on a cake in the bakery section-- as this is a standard thing you can do where I am from. That is apparently not so in this place since there is either no one in the bakery section to be found or they will make direct eye contact with you, hear you tasking to them for help, and walk into the back of the bakery without ever acknowledging you, never to return again.
There never seems to be more than two cashiers working at any given time despite the large volume of people in line and no matter how long the wait, they seem to think it is totally appropriate to stop checking out my items mid transaction to have conversation with their buddy or a coworker who just walked in. I'm talking full on, leaving the register to hug and shake hands with this person. Really??
Even the staff at the Starbucks inside seem to lack the gumption to function as a professional. It is not OK to complain the entire time you are making my drink that you hate your job, that you do not have the proper flavoring to make my drink but you are just going to "wing it" and then when you hand me my drink tell me not to drink directly from the bottom because the flavoring you used will give me an instant migraine. Are you kidding me?!
Needless to say, we will not be going back to this location...
