Staff were nice, food was great, culture was intact. I first visted the College Inn when I was 21 (1997). I hadn't returned until last week for a movie release afterparty and the place still looked exactly the same as it did in '97 which was both nostalgic and refreshing. With a city crammed full of hipster names attempting to falsifiy their own historic roots and longevity, this place is exactly what new 'old timey' themed watering holes try to fake. With all of its original bar and tables intact, the fact that it's been around would make you assume it was dirty or grimey with it's long history - but nope. It's character and personality are intact and maintained. Bathrooms feel punk rock and a bit like a time capsule, however are clean and maintained. Taps are clean which is ideal for any beer consumer, and selection of both eats and liquor run wide as they do late (until 2am). Street parking is available on school nights, but I would avoid this place like the plague on game days - save your craving for an old world watering hole for school nights, it will be a much more enjoyable experience in all aspects. For me, I will defintely be back on their most deadest of nights (business wise) as this makes me miss old...
Read moreLove this place: a dingy, classic wooden bar that attracts the grad students, the regulars, and those who like a chill bar to play pool or hang out. The bar is roomy with two pool tables, darts, and two large back rooms with one being able to be reserved and the other for large groups. There is a fireplace where you can also warm yourself in the winter months. The staff are very relaxed and friendly (heads up: order food from your table!)
The food is bar food but good food (especially the pub nachos) and not that pricey. The beers are mainly consistent with a good handful of rotating taps.
I would recommend this for anyone who likes a cozy hangout place that is a lot more relaxed than the younger...
Read moreThe College Inn pub is a special place. It's not just the ambiance and nostalgia of this below ground haunt. It's the staff, history, selection, the tables, the history, the hauntings and most of all it's a solid public house.
The tables are wood and feel substantial, it gets loud but you lean in and can hear your friends, your dates, your new acquantances.
The drinks are good, cold, served well and with a decent kitchen to boot. Get the nachos or a grinder, enjoy a couple of pints, do your homework, plot the socialist overthrow of the world, write some poetry, play darts, sit by the fire, talk about what is right in the world, bemoan what is wrong,...
