Read moreIt was a dark and stormy morning. The misty morning rain fell gently atop our sleepy heads as we stood in line outside for our mandatory Smokey Mountain tourist pancake and coffee breakfast at Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin. Our entire plan for this Church Gal Overnight Retreat was to have a few laughs at the Titanic Museum. We had planned to hit up the ill fated ship right after our carb load - but Titanic, just like in 1912, had other plans. We can’t even board the ship until 5pm. So what does a gang over overly caffeinated church gals to to kill 6 hours? We head on over to the outskirts of town to visit the World’s Largest Convenience Store… Buc-ee’s! As we turned the corner, suddenly the clouds broke and a beam of glorious sunlight shown down from on high, illuminated the colossal structure. Dark and stormy no more, we became excited for good weather and a good convenience store experience. Now, large is an understatement. As we whipped into the parking area this big girl was scanning the area for shuttle buses to get me from our parking space to the front door. No luck - but luckily I had my schlepping shoes on. There were 6 of us - and worried that we would all likely get separated, once we finally made our way through the doors, we set our timers for one hour, devised an exit strategy and all went off in our own directions. While perusing the wall-o-tee shirts, and feeling people milling all around and about me mainly because of a lack of space, it suddenly occurred to me that I had forgotten to take my anxiety meds!! So I grabbed up a couple of tee shirts, a bag of Beaver Nuggets for my friend’s kid, and made my way over to the far side of the store for a drink. I passed the pots and pans aisle, Ty squishmallows, ginormous insulated cups, fudge, nuts, candies, brisket, tacos, art, home decor, and more, and made my way to the check out counter. Surprisingly, the line went quickly - which was good because the impulse items were strategically placed in a way that was making me want to check my bank account to see how much I could spend and still eat dinner. I made my purchases and made my way out the back door, all the way through the massive parking lot and all the way to the dog park. I popped my pill, had a few relaxing sips of my Monster Energy Drink and started to calm down. I guess watching dogs frolic in the shadow of a giant gas station can be soothing. Back inside my church sisters shopped, sampled, and smiled when we all rendezvoused at the entrance from which we came. We gathered around the Bronze Beaver for our obligatory group photo and hauled our bags of goodies back to our overly stuffed mid-sized SUV. We loaded down the car, turned on the AC and just sat there for a few minutes trying to absorb all that we had just encountered. Other than a slight anxiety attack while trying to find my name on a keychain - I’d say our trip to Buc-ees...
