Last Sunday, I took a trip with liquid adventures for a bear glacier kayak in Alaska. And while my experience with their sister company exit glacier guides for an ice climbing trip was amazing, the experience I had in my kayaking trip was the worst. I was paired on the kayak with some person I didnt know. And I had to kayak 80% of the time as all he did was take pictures and selfies, and would not contribute to the kayaking. We were left behind the rest of the group most of the time as everyone maintained a pace, and this person did not contribute to kayaking, and it was very difficult for me to kayak for both of us. I dont think the guide cared at all about this. I had paid a lot of money to this company and put my faith in them to make sure my experience was good. I am not responsible for some random stranger whom I didnt even know. I took a week to speak over the email to the Kayak Manager James, and he seems to think that since I was taken to the glacier and came back, the trip is completed. Also he thinks that I should book a private tour, as they can pair me with anyone they want, and this is a beginners kayak trip, so no experience is needed, hence its totally okay if one person just sits and the other person has to do all the work. I am sure this is what they do, so this might be just another incident they ignored. Not only was this experience unpleasant, the person whom I was paired with, had zero common sense. He was so busy taking photos that our kayak collided with icebergs 2-3 times. One time, one iceberg completely toppled and the guide asked us to be careful. But it was not possible for me to handle the kayak alone, and this person on my kayak wasnt participating, and when he was kayaking, he was doing it with so much force that we would collide with a fellow kayak or the rocks or an iceberg. I hope everyone knows how dangerous the glaciers can be. The company made me sign a waiver, but I did not take responsibility of any other person's stupidity whom I didnt even know.
The kayak manager James says that they are unable to provide refunds because of someone's social media. I think he misunderstood my request for some reimbursement as I had a very unpleasant and unsafe trip. Just because I have a couple of followers doesnt make me special, I deserved the same experience as the others who were on that trip. An instagram doesnt make me rich so that I can take a private tour as he suggested in the email.
I thanked James for making me understand that just because I was on a solo trip, I dont deserve the same experience as others who were in a group. I mean, after all, I am not rich enough to book a private tour, so why should I have a good experience? Its totally okay that I had to kayak while the other guy just took pictures, and then I had to take pain medication at night coz my hands hurted so bad.
Also, I know now the company will definitely make some comments to make sure I look like a liar and to disregard my claims. But If I am investing so much time to write this long review, its just so that someone doesnt go through the terrible experience I did.
A "sorry" doesnt bring back my money. I live so far from Alaska that I have to wait for 2-3 years again to be able to plan a trip there. I hope you guys understood what that experience meant to me.
Save your money, and invest it with some other company who care more about guest satisfaction than just payments.
I have attached screenshots of the mail. So everyone please decide for yourself how you would feel if you paid 350$, had a terrible trip, and all you...
Read moreI absolutely do not recommend booking with this company. We did the Northwestern kayaking trip with them in June and were disappointed. We felt the tour was oddly paced- there was a lot of just sitting in the kayak, and then all the paddling was a mad dash at the end and pretty unenjoyable. We have been traveling in Alaska for 2 months now and this is the only activity we actually wished we'd skipped. On top of that, almost 2 months later they texted about a "payment issue" and said they charged less than they actually did. I had to send a screenshot of my credit card statement to prove it, and then they didn't even apologize. Totally unprofessional. Update: Since the business decided to respond to this by lying, I feel obligated to update this with more information. To clarify, the staff member who called me did not call and suggest there was an issue with their system, nor did she apologize. She called and said we underpaid by $60 for an excursion almost 2 months ago- she never suggested that they might be wrong or that there was a software glitch. I did not threaten to write a bad review for a payment issue. I did tell her when she insisted that we hadn't paid the full amount that if she charged the card, I would have to dispute it with the credit card company and write a bad review. This seems fair since that would be stealing. I would not have felt compelled to write a review at all if they had simply called and asked to confirm our payment details due to a possible issue in their own system. That is not what happened. I am fully sympathetic to the challenges faced by small businesses during the chaos of the pandemic. These are unprecedented times, and it's been amazing to see how businesses have made it work despite everything. That said, there is no excuse to call a customer 2 months later and demand an additional $60, not apologize for the mistake, and suggest that the customer is in the wrong. The text she sent me after I sent the screenshot even said "it's a small amount so we will take care of it on our end" as if they were doing me a favor by eating $60. There are many great businesses in the Seward area and I hope you find one that treats you with more respect than to lie about you on...
Read moreHad an amazing experience with Liquid Adventures! This review is for the Northwestern Glacier kayaking tour and honestly it was a once in a lifetime experience I’ll never forget. Our guide, Jaxson, was awesome 😊 If you come to Seward, seeing Kenai NP from the water is a MUST! Kayaking makes the experience even more immersive. Paddling through ice in front of the Northwestern glacier was such a unique and special experience. The scenery the entire day is jaw dropping and we saw every type of wildlife- humpbacks, orcas, otters, sea lions, harbor seals & their pups, and puffins! The boat driver was great and slowed the boat when there were whales/wildlife sightings. We got super lucky with a great weather day and calm waters. Overall, 100% worth the money- book the trip! Some logistics: the boat we took was comfortable and had indoor seating with windows and small outdoor decks in both the front/back of boat. There is also a small bathroom on the boat. Around 2 hour boat ride from Seward to the glacier, extremely scenic ride with tons of opportunities for wildlife spotting! Briefing and gear promptly at 8:30 am, out to the boat by 9am. Came back to shore 5:30 pm. Booked reservation with a friend and we were automatically placed in a double shared kayak Dry bags are provided to store your items while on the kayak. They also had a few waterproof phone pouches to loan out, but their supply seemed limited. If you have your own, bring it! Lunch was provided on this trip (food chosen in advance at booking) but bring your own water/snacks Shoes are irrelevant because they provide you with required special soft sided waterproof boots to wear on the trip. Wear thick, warm socks for maximum warmth Offered waterproof jackets/pants to borrow but not required to wear. The jacket/pants were lightweight, definitely prepare with your own warmer layers underneath Bring gloves and a hat. They do provide mits for your hands while kayaking, but I appreciated having my own gloves while out on the boat deck Cubbies provided in the shop to store your personal items (like shoes) while out on the trip
Overall fantastic experience!...
