Shearwater Cove is an absolutely amazing place, if I could give more stars I would. From the moment we arrived at the dock in Seward, we were welcomed by Rachel (our boat captain) with a warm and welcoming smile. She was so enthusiastic about Seward and Shearwater Cove, and was great with our 8 year old daughter, stopping along the way to show her the otters floating on the surface of the water. Once we arrived at Shearwater, Cooper our host, was waiting for us to make sure we got settled in and had everything we needed. We stayed in a premium yurt (black bear) for 2 nights, and it was perfect for our family of 3. The views were absolutely breathtaking from our covered porch. In front of us was the ocean, surrounded by snow capped mountains, behind us, a small waterfall providing the perfect “soundtrack” to our stay. The yurt itself was wonderful, tasteful and simple, with all the amenities you could ever need. The beds were also incredibly comfortable, and listening to the pitter patter of rain on the roof was the perfect way to fall asleep at night. Not only are the views incredibly, but you’re surrounded by so many amazing opportunities to explore nature. We hiked the trails on the property and did a guided kayak tour with Cooper the night we arrived. He took us along the shore, out to a waterfall, providing information and spotting wildlife as we went. I can’t thank Cooper enough for this experience, not only was it magical because of the location, but our 8 year old had been very nervous, not wanting to go kayaking, but after this experience with Cooper, it instantly became her favorite part of our 2 week trip in Alaska. She know says she hopes to work at Shearwater when she’s older. The next morning, after enjoying coffee and pancakes on the deck, we kayaked out to Fox Island, an uninhabited beach, where we spent the afternoon exploring, skipping rocks and eating lunch. I can’t say enough about how amazing Shearwater Cove is, between the beauty, impressive engineering and people, it was truly the best part of our trip and I hope to find my way back there someday.

Shearwater Cove was unbelievable in every fashion- breathtaking, therapeutic, and filled with genuine people- the owners, Jason & Charity, greeted us at the beginning of our trip and were just lovely. We opted for the food preparation option and Charity delivered- everything was just as requested. Jason boated us to Shearwater and was highly informative of the surrounding areas as we approached our destination. Once we arrived to Shearwater Cove, we were greeted by our Host, Cooper. I can't say enough good things about Cooper as he was helpful, knowledgable, informative, and just genuinely a good person. He was always prepared, whether it was for guests at the Yurts or the guided kayak tour. Cooper truly is an asset to Shearwater Cove! We stayed in an original yurt for the first two nights and a premier yurt for the last two nights. Our entire party LOVED both yurts, but I think I speak for us all when we leaned a little more towards the original yurt because of its location and the therapeutic experience it provided. It was nicely shaded and less steps. The premier yurt was a bit higher and had more steps to reach, but had magnificent views and a little more room, not to mention the lights and USB power source. You can't go wrong with any of the yurts! We opted for the Boat Tour with Sound Water Tours and it was another highlight of our stay at Shearwater. I'm so glad we booked the boat tour! We also booked the guided kayak tour with Shearwater and it was incredible. Cooper was our kayak guide and took us to Humpy Cove to see the beautiful waterfall. He was knowledgable, well-trained safety-wise, and created a memorable experience for everyone. Our trip back to Seward Harbor was great as well- Emily was our captain for the last trip and she was wonderful as well. We will never forget our experience at Shearwater and we hope to be back in the future! Our stay will always be remembered as such an incredible trip all thanks to the exceptional effort and kindness Charity, Jason, and of course, Cooper.

This was a fairy-tale kind of getaway, in one of the most beautiful pockets of Alaska! Though only a ~40 min(?) water taxi from Seward, we saw some of the most gorgeous scenery of our whole trip while kayaking around Resurrection Bay from Shearwater Cove, and exploring Fox Island - an inspiring place to pull on shore, hike around, and have lunch. We saw all kinds of birds, otters, seals, starfish, fish, and eagles, and all different shades of beautiful blue-green water, crystal clear around the cove, due to the waterfall/creek that feeds into the bay. The yurts were perfect: extremely clean and well-kept, with a very comfortable bed, and every amenity you could possibly hope for when glamping in Alaska. We really appreciated the well-curated book-shelf and board games for when the rain picked up, but with the fickle weather in Seward, we still got plenty of breaks and even some sunshine, enough to get out kayaking twice, including a full 9-10 hours kayaking and exploring on the second day- on smooth protected water, though it was fun to paddle further out to the bay where you could feel ocean swell. Having done guided kayak tours in Resurrection Bay in the past, it was really awesome this time to have free access to kayaks and be able to use them whenever. Most inspiring were Jason and Charity and their thoughtful approach to sustainable, eco-friendly, elegant solutions in the design of this place. Great tasting cold water from the top of the mountain, and running *hot* water- the shower rocked! I was also weirdly obsessed with the super fly composting toilet, and the water system, which Jason was happy to show me. I recommend staying at least 2 nights!, partly for weather insurance, but mostly because you will wish you could stay longer.
