Please don’t stay here unless you don’t plan to sleep at all. This hotel is new and looks very nice. Unfortunately, the builders/designers/owners (blame who you want) included NO insulation in the walls. You are basically rooming with everyone in the hotel. Also, they put “quiet” hours in the elevator, which is laughable. People are loud and stomp around regardless of the paper posted in the elevator. Public restroom stalls have more insulation than this place. Now, let’s talk about the windows, which much be the cheapest available because again, you might as well be staying on the road. I can hear every car that passes on the road. If you are going to build a new hotel you should build it well. This is not built well.
I would like to take a minute to talk about the people working here. I checked in and asked if our room was near the elevator. The front desk guy looked me in the eye and said, “No, it is down the hall a ways.” Yeah, that was a LIE. We are the closest room on the left to the elevator.
Finally, their Wi-Fi is completely useless. If you have work or a meeting or just need to connect your phone it isn’t going to cut it. It is the slowest most useless Wi-Fi I have ever used in a hotel.
I have been traveling all over the state with my family. All I expected from this hotel was a good night’s sleep and some sanitary conditions. The place is very clean, but there was no sleep. If you have to stay here for some reason, request the third floor, facing the parking lot, last room at the end of the hall. If you are in Seward and don’t have to stay here I would HIGHLY recommend an AirBNB or a traditional Bed & Breakfast or a cabin because the hotels in this town have always been lacking and apparently this one isn’t trying...
Read moreI will NEVER stay here again. My husband surprised me with a visit for my birthday and Valentine’s Day as the two were close together. We checked in and the gal on duty was super sweet. She welcomed us to the hotel and referred us to a spot for dinner. We went up to our room and found it beautiful. However upon returning from dinner and settling in for the night our neighbor began banging on the wall that we were too loud. We were sitting on our bed talking about our supper and our plans for the next day. We were NOT being loud. I called down to the reception desk to let them know that the neighbor was upset and that we were talking in a normal indoor voice with our TV low. The receptionist acknowledged that the walls were thin and that she would talk with the neighbor. At midnight, as we were settling down for the night, we received a phone call telling us that we were too loud and that reception would be coming up to access our noise because the neighbor was complaining. As we scrambled to get dressed, reception never arrived. Instead we got a phone call telling us we needed to move rooms. When we asked why we needed to move rooms we were told we could either leave or move. We were not allowed to state our side. We were not loud. We have spent every Valentines weekend in Seward for the last 5 years and never had a problem. At this point the staff (new receptionist) was so rude we made the decision to leave. At 1am we packed up and left for Anchorage. Our weekend was ruined. I will never stay here again. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff is rude, the walls are thin. Stay here at your own risk. I’d recommend the Harbor 360 if you want a welcoming and cozy experience. Steer clear...
Read moreMy husband, 3 year old son and I stayed at the Gateway for 8 days to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We had a great time! The hotel is absolutely beautiful with spacious public areas, we stayed in double queen room and it was roomy with tasteful decor. We had a great view of Mt Marathon (that we hiked up during the week - being able to lay in bed and see where we stopped was fun 😂). We loved having hot breakfast options every morning - the pancake machine was the highlight of my kids morning every single day.
The staff was incredible. Every single employee we passed greeted us with a smile and 'hello' or 'have a great day' which caught me off guard because we've never had that happen even though we frequent hotels in the summers. Sylvia (I hope I read her name badge right) was my favorite employee! She was the one who checked us in and every single day we saw her she greeted us and asked how our day was going. She was friendly and personable and wasn't afraid to point out fun little hidden trails around town.
Like other reviewers we did notice being able to hear the people above us walking/running around their room but it didn't bother us much. We were so tired from adventuring when we got to the hotel in the evening it was easy to tune everything out and their noise didn't ruin our stay at all.
The hotel is SUPER conveniently located. Walking distance to the shops by the harbor, a great ice cream truck parks across the road on not-rainy days, and it right smack dab in the middle of everything you want to see. We can't wait to book our next stay here! Thank you Gateway for making our Seward...
