Unpleasant Experience at lighthouse. today I visited lighthouse cafe with my two children, and unfortunately, it was an extremely unpleasant experience. We arrived at 9am to find the shop already filled, which wasnât an issue. However, things quickly took a turn for the worse.
As I stepped up to the counter to place my order, the couple behind me decided to leave without ordering. Instead of ignoring their departure, the owner began loudly berating them, saying things like, âIâm glad they left, I donât want to serve people like that! They have no patience. Thatâs the way society is now, just going downhill.â Shocked by his outburst, I suggested that he should be the change he wants to see in the world. Instead of taking my comment to heart, he responded by saying I should be grateful to be a tourist and get to see the area he lives in because, according to him, âthe world is going downhill.â I replied, âWow, thatâs a lot of negativity first thing in the morning,â to which he responded, âI rebuke it in the name of Jesus, but people are awful.â At this point, I wasnât sure if I should provide a mirror.
Despite the negativity, I proceeded with my order. After receiving my three pastries and sitting down, I noticed the worker had forgotten to make my coffee. The owner gave him quite an earful, which only added to the tense atmosphere.
What really sent me over the edge was the way the owner spoke to an Indian couple who had placed an order and were waiting for it to be ready. The wife approached the counter to ask how long it would take, as they were in an obvious hurry. The ownerâs response was appallingly rude and dismissive: âI donât know how time works in India, but here itâs ready when itâs done.â The couple ended up leaving without their food, and I was shocked!
My son wanted to order more food, but I refuse to ever support this business again! Overall, the negativity and rudeness displayed by the owner made for a very uncomfortable experience. While the pastries were fine, the atmosphere and treatment of customers were far from acceptable. I wonât be returning and cannot recommend this...
Read moreI've debated about leaving a review for Lighthouse cafe and bakery. I did a google search, as I typically do for the various town/cities we visit, for sourdough bakery. Lighthouse Bakery came up. Then we walked around Seward and I saw it. The first time we looked in it was busy, two young girls were selling chocolate chip cookies outside and we happily bought two. But I didn't see many pastries and absolute no loaves of read. It was between 10-11 am and I thought that perhaps they were just already out. Then this morning we visited again for breakfast. As stated in some other reviews the counter man has opinions that he isn't shy about sharing, but I thought that, because I also love Jesus Christ the Lord, there might be some kinship. But there wasn't. He just seemed a bit angry and quite disgruntled. We ordered two breakfasts - both with eggs over easy. The menu indicated that my breakfast came with choice of bread. When I asked about sourdough bread the counter man said that they only have white bread and the indication was that that's the only bread they ever have (and I should be happy with it). We also requested orange juice, which turned out to be something like Tang orange beverage. When we received our breakfasts (order at the counter then they bring it to you when ready) one was scrambled eggs and the other over easy. Husband said he'd take the scrambled, so we switched the bacon with the reindeer sausage because there was a line at the counter and in some of the reviews it indicates that asking for corrections is greeted caustically. The cinnamon rolls and other pastries were plentiful at this time of day (about 8:30 am) and we got some to go for breakfasts tomorrow and possibly beyond. They are quite large and the little bits that stuck to the bag when I transferred them to an air tight container were tasty, so I'm hopeful for future meals. So three stars seems a...
Read moreFirst and foremost, they sold me fries on my breakfast plate and called it "Potatoes O'Brien"... They didn't even make the effort to chop up the fries and add onion. Not only that, they didn't even try to explain why I was receiving fries instead of the advertised Potatoes O'Brien.
Second... The customer service made me feel like more of an inconvenience than a paying customer. As if my patronage was the last thing they wanted. But still I smiled and was friendly the whole time. I'm from a very food oriented city, I know that the restaurant industry is tough especially in a tourist town. So I assure you I would never be rude to my servers. Yet every employee at this business glared at me and my family when we placed even the simplest of orders.
Third... They don't honor their advertised lunch menu, every time I asked if lunch had started yet they kept saying we only do breakfast, yet their lunch menu was on full display the whole week I was visiting. I asked at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. I even tried to ask at 1 p.m. Which brings me to my final point...
Fourth... They advertise that they close at 2, but don't let people in after 1. Or at least didn't let us in after 1.
I genuinely hate writing reviews like this. But I experienced nothing but blatant rudeness and I worry that others will experience this atrocious service. Please do better. Show some compassion and kindness. Especially when people are paying for...
