After a few hours drive down from Anchorage we had about an hour to grab some food in town before our boat tour. There was no way I was getting Mexican food this far north because the rule definitely applies (the further from the border you get the worse the Mexican food).
Our party of 8 sees a pretty bustling joint with inside and outside tables. It’s a nice day, so we decide to come in. It’s a tourist bonanza, but I guess the entire city is to a certain degree. The décor is sea worthy, like a poor mans Joe’s Crab Shack.
We order crab cake sandwiches, grilled salmon sandwiches, appetizer platters, seafood and clam chowders. All of it with fries as we try and steer clear from all getting fried foods as we’ll never make our boat.
Service was good. Order size came out pretty fast, but the prices were a little high considering the per person lunch was $15+. The crab cake was excellent, the salmon was well grilled and fresh, but the seabass was super dry, all the buns were basic. Good bacon, but sides were extra. The chowder was meh. Calamari was a bit rubbery. Scallops and shrimp were plump and juicy, a sort of spicy old bay dusting, good color with the slightest of char. Fries are fresh cut, but are overcooked in old oil so the freshness is lost, all they need is basic salt and they dropped the ball on these. The tartar sauce had no fresh herbs, the cocktail sauce tasted like ketchup and marinara.
The set up is actually pretty cramped despite the open feeling. Just too many tables crammed together, not enough room to move between. We moved and adjusted twice eventually giving up feeling comfortable. That Mexican food was sounding better and better as our experience...
Read moreWe were looking for a quick dinner of fried oysters, calamari, and shrimp for some dinner after our cruise out to the glacier and decided to try Alaska Seafood Grill, but we were very disappointed in the service and the food.
We called ahead for take out and ordered a basket of shrimp and sides of the oysters and calamari. The employee stated our food would be ready in 15 minutes. We arrived 20 minutes later to pick up our food, and they had not started preparing our order. They had the order in the computer, but no one acknowledged having received it, or passing it on to the cooks.
When we received the order 10 minutes later, the cashier charged us for 3 baskets (~$15 overcharge) instead of the price of 1 basket and 2 sides we ordered and received. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the overcharge, until we were back at our air b&b and didn't want to drive back into town for the $15.
The food was marginal at best.
On our shuttle back to our car from the restaurant we were talking to a cruise employee who stated that they stay away from this restaurant due to poor service, food, and hygiene. (Should have asked before going, my bad!)
I would avoid Alaska Seafood Grill if possible.
(I appreciate your response, but the wait wasn't the issue as much as the staffs' apathy and incompetence, in not passing on, or receiving the order, in their response to the issue, and in overcharging for the product. Their affect made it clear that they did not care about our satisfaction as customers, nor about the product...
Read moreIf I could give this zero stars I would. First of all, we went here for breakfast and paid $32 for two breakfast dishes (neither of which were the quality or quantity of what one would expect for $32). Secondly, when paying by credit card, their system forces you to leave a tip and gives options of 15%, 18%, and 20%. There are three things wrong with this picture 1) who tips BEFORE meal is served and experienced service, 2) It is not common practice to tip in a place where you walk up to a counter and order your food, get your own silverware, creamer, and sugar for your coffee, and are expected to clean up after yourself...what are you tipping them for, putting your order in the computer like McDonalds?!, 3) A tip is a tip for service well done & to not give an option to not tip, or maybe just tip a dollar is wrong. Aside from all that, the silverware was all crammed together in one of those plastic racks that goes in the dishwasher and I pulled out about 7 dirty forks before finding a "clean" one. Will most definitely...
