Quite easily the worst BBQ I've ever had. I've had better bbq in taste and experience during rib fests and hole-in-the-wall joints. I've been obsessed with BBQ that my wife has given up talking me out of even just sniffing a place within a 10mile radius. If there's beef ribs, pork ribs, AND brisket I will give it a try.

Service was mid so it was alright.

Now for the food: I ordered the brisket plate- the wife ordered pork plate. The beans and the potato were undercooked that my wife and I just looked at each other and without saying a word we knew something was already wrong. The meat: pulled pork looked what you expect but it tasted awful as well as the brisket. The brisket looked also like pulled pork. The taste? I've never seen my wife pour half the bottle of BBQ sauce on her food but it happened- and I did the same. Poured the sauce on the beans as well as the potato. The BBQ sauce was very watery and tasted bland.

If you look at the other lower rated reviews they pretty much echo what I talk about here. I hope they were just not on their A game but it seems like being the only BBQ joint made them complacent. Please do not pass your recipe down to future generations.

The place looked cool and very nostalgic of a BBQ joint so that was the only hook I needed to stop by and give my honest review.

Thank you for the food and service but I can't see myself going back unless they change they make the brisket, the sauce, and the...

We have traveled to Memphis, St. Louis, Kansas City, the Carolinas, Detroit, and Texas. We have had BBQ at them all. Who would have ever thought the best we have ever had would be found in Seward Alaska?! We stayed at the Gateway and when we looked out our window we saw Firebrand right across the street and were curious. When we woke up in the morning and saw a line of people waiting early in the morning we knew we had to try it. We were not disappointed. The owner Chad was very nice and pleasant to all 8 of us. We asked him the story as we could tell he was not a native Alaskan haha. He happily shared his story how he ended up on the corner and his history of being a firefighter. Our family has many firefighters thru the generations so we appreciated this. The food was even better than the conversation. We had crab legs, brisket, pork belly, the baked potato dish, and some sandwiches with extra sides of meat. We were going to share a lot of the food amongst all of us. However, one of our kids ate all of the pork belly out of his own portion and his mom's sandwich. Chad, the owner overheard this and brought out more so mom could have a taste at no charge. We really enjoyed eating here and sitting outside and chatting with the other patrons and staff it was a very nice sunny day. It was a very memorable and pleasant place to have lunch and the best meal we had while we spent our couple of days in Seward. Make sure you...

We came to Firebrand BBQ to grab some food for lunch before going to a hike in town. It was so good that we came back for dinner the same day!! We wanted to try the wagyu ribs but they were sold out. If you want to taste the wagyu ribs, come soon after 3:30 when it's ready. Even though we missed the wagyu ribs, we really enjoyed the pork belly, smoked crab legs, brisket, and pork ribs. Our son doesn't usually eat crab, but when he tasted these smoked crab legs, he was hooked!

Besides the tasty food, the best part was the owner's hospitality. It was apparent that he was being very attentive to his guests, making sure they were happy and well fed. We wanted to come back the next morning for their breakfast burrito (that would have made it 3 consecutive meals here), but the owner said they'll be closed because he's taking his staff out for a 3 day fishing trip!

Our kids had BIG SMILES while eating and continued to RAVE about Firebrand BBQ after we returned home. They said it was their favorite meal in Alaska and they want to come back if we visit Alaska again. As parents, the memories the kids carry with them are important to us, and we know it was a wonderful memory because the owner was so kind...

So, as something of a BBQ connoisseur, I'm gonna leave it to the next guy to try something different here. Having eaten BBQ across the US, from Terry Blacks and other excellent staple locations in Texas to mesquite style in southern AZ and Carolinas style, I've had a lot of BBQ and the majority was good to exceptional. Coming into Seward Alaska and trying a self-reported Texas style, I set my expectations low. I got the brisket plate in order to really "judge" and while it's not close to the best I've had, it's solid brisket, especially considering the location. The joint could be aptly renamed from Firebrand to Pepperbrand, however, considering the copious amounts of black pepper in everything, including the slaw, potato salad, beans, etc. The wife enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich, which for me is akin to ordering chicken nuggets -- a solid staple, hard to mess up, and always tasty, but not a good judge of the overall quality of the smoked meats. So .. what's the verdict? I'd come again and try the pork belly and crab and I wasn't displeased by the experience. The service was quick and friendly and the open air eating was great since the weather was perfect, high 60s and light winds.

I know food ratings are inflated in Alaska because of the hungry tourists, but yikes this place was truly a let down. The crab cluster had an awful stench to it, like it had been in the freezer for at least 2 years prior to being boiled. The white part of the crab shell was a yellow-green color, that was how old and stale it was. The barbecue was pretty bland, all I could say is that they cooked it thoroughly and put salt on it. The beef ribs were good, but that's solely because they were fatty beef ribs, not because of their flavor or technique. Unfortunately, we went back again for breakfast because we needed something quick and hearty. What a mistake! Unseasoned potatoes on unsalted eggs on bland and dry leftover meat from the previous day, wrapped in a greasy flour tortilla. The tables and benches were dirty with droppings and stains from the night before, even when they just opened in the morning. If you are going to ask for 15% tip minimum for an order-at-counter restaurant, at least wipe the table ONCE a table, eh?

As we planned our Alaska trip and subsequent adventures, we knew Firebrand BBQ was on the top of our list after a day on the water in Seward. When we first arrived there wasn’t any available seating but Chad quickly helped find us seating and another member of the staff carried a large stump over to complete our “table” Service can make or break a meal experience and the whole team were awesome. The violin player added to the ambiance and the food was exceptional. A few of us got the loaded baked potatoes while a couple got the crabs. Chad was awesome teaching us some cracking hacks and constantly engaging with us throughout. Don’t get fooled by the more casual environment. Put this menu in a building in the city and you’ll pay more than twice the price for half the experience.
