We chose SunnyCove to take us out for a full day of Kayaking and cruising the waters of Kenai Fjords National Park out of Seward during our very first trip to Alaska. The Ascension, is a custom equipped stable vessel with a unique marine landing ramp like I have never seen before. Designed with the client in mind to make it easy for beach access. The kayaks were also very stable making it ideal for someone who has never tried paddling before. Our guides, Ashley and Emma were very engaging professionals with the experience to make everyone feel safe and secure on the water. Their depth of knowledge and passion for the area was evident during all parts of the trip. They made it a lot of fun and they made sure to involve everyone on the boat. Captain Mike, from Seward Coastal Expeditions, was a great leader to have behind the wheel. He started out with a plan to take us directly to the kayaking area but immediately altered that plan when some whales were spotted in a nearby bay. We spent some enjoyable minutes watching the whales surface close to shore where other boats might have motored right by. That is the kind of flexibility you want in your tour guide/captain. Mike is a seasoned and knowledgable naturalist as well. He was able to spot interesting natural features all along the way that made our trip feel special and unique. Normally a rolling boat is not the best place for a photographer with a long telephoto lens but the stability of the Ascension and the skill of Mikes crew behind the wheel allowed us to come home with a number of "keeper" photographs that were a big bonus for us on the trip. The inner waters of the bays and the design of the boat made for very little pitching while we were taking in all of the sites around us. See our photos attached. I would highly recommend Sunnycove and the Ascension for anyone looking to explore the Seward area by kayak or boat cruise. My highest praise goes out to all of the crew. We hope to return to explore more areas of the...

We did the full day glacier kayak and wildlife cruise combo. It was AMAZING. I wish I could give more than five stars. It was a major highlight of our week in Alaska.

Our guides Margot and Maggie were very knowledgeable and super passionate about what they do, and it showed. You can tell they love sharing about Seward, Resurrection Bay, and Kenai Fjords.

Kayaking near a glacier is the coolest thing ever, and we had plenty of time to explore around. They gave great instruction on how to paddle. The kayaks are super stable, and I never felt like we were even close to tipping, which is a huge fear of mine. They keep the groups small, so you’re never far from an experienced guide in case you need help.

After paddling, we got out on a beach and watched the glacier calve while eating a delicious picnic lunch provided by Sunny Cove. I really appreciated that they were able to accommodate my dairy intolerance.

The boat ride back to Seward included a wildlife cruise, so we got to see humpback whales, sea lions, orcas, otters, and harbor seals. It was such a great time for our...

There were four of us who attended the trip and it turned out to only be our group, so we got our own little private trip. The Captain, second hand mate, and guide were so beyond friendly. We enjoyed their company and they were super knowledgeable of the area and all the wildlife. Our guide pointed out so many animals we never would have seen. We saw whales, sea lions, otters, orcas, bears and a mountain goat. It was cold and rained on and off but it was beyond worth it. They provided snacks, drinks, lunch and most importantly hot soup. The food was all homemade and delicious. Due to a bear being in our lunch spot we were picked up early by the boat to head back to the docks. But the captions and guides took us to watch whales and orcas that were not originally part of the plan. They easily could have brought us back to the docks early and called it a day but they were so kind enough to go out of the normal planned trip to give us the opportunity to see so much more ocean life. Can not recommend them enough, we were so happy we were able to support a smaller...
