The captain and crew were friendly and professional, which we appreciated. But unfortunately, the trip was a major letdown—mainly because of the lack of halibut.
My brother and I have been on several charters over the years out of Seward, Homer, Whittier, and Valdez, including two trips with the Seward Fishing Club on Rainisong in the last three years. Until now, we’ve always had success catching halibut. This time, out of 20 people on board, only 3 halibut were landed.
We understand that fishing can be hit or miss—but sitting in one spot for hours pulling up rockfish we couldn’t even keep was frustrating(limited out). As lifelong Alaskans, these trips aren’t just for fun—they’re a way for us to fill the freezer for the year and provide food for the family. This trip didn’t come close. We averaged maybe 3–4 lbs of keepable fish per person.
We expected a more proactive effort to find halibut or change locations, especially when it was clear the bite wasn’t happening. Sadly, this trip fell far short of...
Read moreThe crew was friendly and helpful, the only reason for the 3 stars. While the experience is important, catching fish is the reason you pay upwards of 300 to go on a charter, not counting gas, tips, and all the other costs. I am a local who has been on a dozen or more charters, this one was by far the most disappointing. This vessel could have gone much further out It was a 70 foot boat, we stayed in one area for 5 hours. 26 people 4 or 5 halibut, but mostly small rockfish, many we caught we couldn't keep. Prob a half dozen or so silvers caught, 26 people! It was terrible, I'd rather drive further out and get small fish it's better then next to none. First time ever not getting halibut. It's better to book an exclusive halibut charter, not a mulitispecies charter. Not a fan, but that's my opinion. It's not enough to have just a nice crew. Actually, getting fish would be ideal. The few we got were little. The day was beautiful, people were nice but we weren't fishing in...
Read moreWe had an absolutely fantastic time on our charter fishing trip! The crew—Eric, Geo, and Ryan—were great to be on board with. They gave us clear instructions, shared helpful fishing tips, and worked so hard to make sure everyone had an awesome time! Mission accomplished.
The boat itself was really nice, clean, and comfortable. We caught our share of salmon, which was super exciting! Had a few escape before they taught us the tips and tricks of reeling in the salmon. The ride out to the fishing spots (and back in) was just as enjoyable! We even got to see otters and a whale along the way, which was very neat and the views were pretty.
At the end of the charter (we did the 6 hour one) , the crew filleted the fish for us and sent us on our way with fresh catch and big smiles. We couldn’t have asked for a better trip and would absolutely love to go again the next time we’re...
