Ocean State Job Lot — Attraction in South Plainfield

On 11/2/2019 between the hours 3:15pm-4:15pm Me and my husband found this place after a lunch date we had in the area. Pleasantly the store was very welcoming with its wonderful deals and very well organize inventory. Everything was great until we got to the register which ruined my entire first time experience to this location. There was a customer ahead of us with just one small item on the counter, and my husband then proceeded to add the items we intended to purchase on the counter. The cashier's name "Margaux" Store #554 Cashier#58638 Reg#5 Time 4:12pm quickly put her hand up towards my husband's face and said STOP without even looking him in the eye. I seen my husband's reaction and I then asked why are you not putting the items on the counter? He told me that the cashier said stop, and I noticed the customer in front looking like wow, how rude of the cashier when he himself was just waiting for transaction to close out. I then looked at her and she was looking at the register, then she started scanning our items no greeting, no nothing as to why she told my husband to stop, absolutely Nothing. I then proceeded to greet her and say hello how are you doing?, because I have worked in customer service 20 plus years and know that this is not the right attitude, she didn't respond to my greeting at all. At this point my husband walked away to the customer service area because he himself knows something is not right. The cashier had her head down the entire time I was at the counter until the total came up and she told me the amount, I proceeded to swipe my card and about to put the chip side in the machine when she said NO, and literally explained to me how the process works. I told her very clearly, You do not have to explain anything to me about the process I understand the process very well, she then sucked her teeth and gave me my receipt and left my items on the counter, NO BAG. I said I would like a bag please, she looked at my items and then got a bag and left it on the counter. This woman may have been having a bad day but being rude or possibly racist is not a way to handle any situation. Customer service is customer service and that behavior should not...

Hello from Lester "Smitty" Smith I just had to report on this Ocean State Job Lot and as you notice I just have to keep on saying at this great operation here I've been wanting to rate this place for about a week or so and just been so busy haven't had the time it is one of the best stores I've been into in a long time and everything to get from A to Z. People so pleasant & helpful things I haven't seen in other stores and new things which were out for the spring appeal stores super clean and well-stocked remember oceanstatejoblot I mean I come from North Jersey just to shop there and they do whatever they can do to keep you coming back for example they only if they had a floor sample that was only one left a good shape they so I wanted it in a manager came over and gave me I believe it was 10 15% off I mean they are so well organized there it's a must to stop in and as I said you was fine things you haven't seen another stores that are hard to get and some new things out for the spring so once again make sure you stop by please Piscataway area it'll be well with you. Store layout is horrible. You walk in only way you can go is right. As they have a shelving unit as soon as you walk in. If you wanted to go look at the clothing which is on the left side of the store you have to double back. You don't see retail places like that anymore most have an open front and you can go left or right when you walk in. Way too much merchandise that don't have a price sticker. It's like a Big Lots but somehow worse. I've lived in South Plainfield for almost 2 years now and despite being in that shopping center to go to Dollar Tree in Burlington yesterday was on my second time in Ocean City. Just not impressed at all with the store and the sloppy setup. Update 9 months later Ok more items are actually priced. Store layout is still horrible especially when walking in. Toy section is just sad. Way way too much generic stuff. I've seen more licensed product in the toy section at Dollar Tree. Here it is pretty much mid October and they still have all their summer stuff still out. Most stores it was put on deep discount awhile ago and replaced with Halloween stuff. Seeing a full section of pool and summer toys in October...
