First discovered this hidden gem while staying at another resort nearby. While enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and the great food and drinks we noticed the houseboats, so we decided to make Hurricane Hole our next Key West vacation destination. And just last week we did. This quaint little lagoon felt like a small seaside village. Since we never made it to the supermarket to stock our “aqualodge”, the convenient store on site was our first stop in the morning for coffee. We enjoyed many meals (and a few well blended cocktails) at the restaurant. Also on site is Lazy Dog Kayak tours. Cece, our tour guide was quite informative and clearly enjoys sharing all she knows about the ecosystem around the local mangroves. The 2 hour tour was just the right amount of time to enjoy the water, but not so exhausting that you’re done for the day. If we hadn’t already had boating plans to meet a friend there, there are many charters that pick up their clients right there at the marina. We enjoyed watching all of the activity coming and going out of that little lagoon as we sat on the back porch of our lodge either drinking our coffee in the morning or enjoying a sip or two at happy hour. Also right off the porch were plenty of fish, jellyfish (cassiopea) and occasional manatee sightings. With all of the activity, the lagoon isn’t conducive for swimmers though. Unless you are a dog…I did see a couple of labs over by the kayaks. So if the sound of sleeping in a bed…in a lodge… floating in a calm lagoon on Stock Island (lots of other great food options nearby as well) while enjoying the Key West area sounds...
Read moreRented a boat at this place last week and also got some food from their restaurant to take out with us. The food was awesome and the boat trip, snorkeling and swimming in the deep ocean was as well and one of the most relaxing things I've even done on vacation. The staff was very helpful and we even had an ice chest loaded with ice ready to go. My only draw back is navigating the extremely shallow channel to get in and out was nerve racking and when we go back, I think I'll try to find a place that's a little closer to the open water if that's possible. I've only been in boats in a lake so I'm sure someone with more ocean experience would be OK and if so, I highly recommend both the bar...
Read moreThis Marina has some of the best prices for rental boats, and best customer service around. Jose and Tammy took great care of me the entire time. The boat was filled up with ice and ready for me to go as soon as I got there, and they have a pretty large radius, large enough to allow me to catch some mahi. This was an amazing experience, if I had nitpick, the only thing I’d say is that the propeller was in pretty bad condition, which I’m sure didn’t help with my fuel efficiency, but I was please when the boat was fueled up that the gas prices were not that expensive. Even when I was done with the rental and filleting my fish, Tammy was helping me out...
