My husband and I visited this restaurant to celebrate my birthday, as we are locals who have dined here before. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing, and I’ve never felt so humiliated by a server. The service from our server, Gera A, and her manager, Ben Cach, was appalling.
Initially, Gera’s service seemed fine, but it quickly deteriorated. She attempted to charge us for an item we didn’t order – an alcoholic drink. During happy hour, drinks were buy one, get one free, but she failed to explain that I couldn’t transfer the free drink to my husband, which I found to be unreasonable. I never asked for a second drink, but Gera brought it to us anyway. When I explained that we didn’t want it since we had to work the next day, she insisted we keep it and said she would put it in a to-go cup. We repeatedly told her we didn’t want it, but she decided to charge us for both drinks.
When I asked her to remove the charge for the second drink, Gera claimed she couldn’t because my husband drank my free drink, and therefore, they had to charge us. This reasoning felt entirely unfair. She argued with us, and I asked to speak with the manager.
Ben Cach, the manager, was no better. Instead of apologizing for the miscommunication and poor service, he sided with Gera and continued to argue with us. He falsely claimed that I ordered two drinks, which was a complete lie. Despite my protests, he insisted that we had to pay for the extra drink. It was incredibly frustrating, especially when we had clearly communicated our concerns.
The whole experience felt disrespectful, and at one point, I began to feel as though we were being treated unfairly. It left me feeling upset and disrespected, not just by Gera, but by Ben as well. A fellow employee even informed me that Gera had received multiple complaints from other guests. To make matters worse, the party seated next to us had similar issues with her that night.
It’s baffling that someone with such poor customer service skills is still employed here, and I was equally disappointed by Ben’s handling of the situation. I left the restaurant feeling completely disrespected. For an upscale restaurant, the service from both Gera and Ben was shockingly bad, and I would not recommend them to anyone.
Aside from the issues with service, the food was excellent, and the restaurant itself is a lovely place. Additionally, some of the other staff members provided exceptional...
Read moreI had the 8 oz Australian Wagyu Filet Mignon, cooked medium rare and my wife had the Prime Rib cooked medium rare. Also had calamari and oysters. The calamari was really good, not rubbery like a lot of calamari in restaurants (recommended if you like fried Calamari). The oysters were raw (I prefer steamed to avoid vibrio infection, norovirus infection, and hepatitis A from uncooked oysters) but the oysters had something I have never seen before, they came out with dry ice so the vapor (frozen carbon dioxide) from the dry ice was all around the oysters which was really nice and unique. The hand made sauces with the oysters were excellent. The Waygu was cooked different from other restaurants where I've had Waygu. Normally Waygu is cooked on a Himalaya hot salt block by the chef at your table but this restaurant cooked it on the grill, which was good and soft but not as good as when it is cooked on a Himalaya hot salt block by the chef at your table. As for the Prime Rib, my wife said it was too salty and the asparagus was overcooked and had a burnt taste. We came during happy hour which you can buy one drink and get a free drink, that is always nice. We had two triple chocolate martinis, a little strong with the alcohol for the most part, but no complaints. Live guitar and singer, nice songs but a little too loud, not so romantic. Tables could use table cloths to improve the atmosphere, elegance and style. Roy was our server and he did a great job, very friendly and professional. Ask for Roy's table as you will get great service. A couple tweaks and this could be a 5 star restaurant and like 2019 could be the best restaurant in Key West again. Price was normal for this type of meal and service, $265 with tip and tax. I was actually thinking $465 is normal, but no Himalaya Salt Block with a chef cooking it at your table reduces the price a couple hundred. I've traveled to 124 countries and have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, so I know food and I feel my reviews are...
Read moreTavern N Town is one of my favorite restaurants in Key West. My husband and I are local and go there regularly. They have amazing buffet style brunches. Always treated very well there. Salmon is amazing. And their risotto blows away most of the restaurants in town. For dessert try the flan. It is amazing! When we can't figure out what we want to eat we always end up there lol. Very good quality food. RECENTLY UPDATED: AS OF SEPT 13TH,2017
My husband and mother in law were two of the many people who stayed in Key West for Hurricane Irma. Unfortunately they lost power from the storm. But our houses were fine and we had heard from family and friends that they were ok. But it was his bday and I was sad all day thinking that my husband wasn't going to eat...let alone have a warm meal. Tavern N Town had plates for $15 That were so good he said!! Very well worth it! That isn't even the best part. We go there regularly for date night. So often the waiter often knows what we want...unless we switch it up on him. Lol they always make us feel special when we go there and the food is amazing. For his bday this year they gave him a bday dinner he will never forget and we will be telling our grandchildren about one day. They welcomed our mini horse into the restaraunt. These were crazy circumstances. But everyone just happy to be alive. He said she loved walking around and watching the piano player play. It was a wonderful once in a lifetime experience. One that will be written in our family journals. Thank you Tavern N Town for making his bday special...one that he will never forget! PS I...
