I have been to amazing tropical gardens in the past: Mae Hong Son (Thailand), the Jardin de Balata on Martinique and also the Jardin Botanique in Deshaies (Guadeloupe). Those gardens were magnificent!!! The Key West Botanical Garden next to them is night and day. A boardwalk through boring vegetation, almost no flowers, just a few animals in the artificial pond. Talking about the pond: what a great way to contribute to mosquito population growth! I was in and out in 20 minutes to be honest. $7 per person: what a rip off!!! I felt like I was giving them money to recreate a garden after a hurricane. On top of that, the staff was really unfriendly and that's why I give only one star. I would have given two stars but the whole experience gave me a bad aftertaste. If you want to be wowed, go to the Key West Garden Club located at the West Martello Tower on Atlantic Blvd. The location is spectacular with commending views on the ocean The garden is much smaller but so much more appealing, and you can enjoy a picnic lunch with a view and look at the sea. On top of that, it is a free tourist attraction. A donation is appreciated. I would rather give them my money than spending it at the Key West Botanical Garden! To sum it up, follow my advice and go to the Key West Garden Club if you don't know about it. It's a hidden gem! You'll be glad that you read my...
Read moreMagical place to visit for wildlife lovers! We saw many birds including ibis roaming around. Be sure to look up into the trees to find iguanas and birds. Felt like we had the place to ourselves.
We loved roaming around and taking time to sit and enjoy all the different areas. You can spend an hour or 3 depending on your pace! Take a moment to sit in the clearing and listen to the free concert when the wind hits the wax palms.
Take advantage of the audio tour! Super easy to access and you will learn so many interesting things about all the flora.
My favorite plant was the Princewood, a few white flowers remained and they smelled like creamy chocolate. Smell every flower you can!
The hands on percussion instruments by the lake were a joy to play with and a wonderful serotonin inducing meditative experience! The turtles seemed to enjoy it too :)
Geologists and geology lovers don't forget to look down and check out the coral reef imprinted limestone that makes up the...
Read more1.I expected more flowers and colors, its probably because of the hurricane. 2.The area is not stroller friendly, so if you have a baby, baby wear them. There are only few trails thats either pavement or wood, most of it is mulch and soil with lots of twigs and roots. some of the areas are closed off. Probably due to the hurricane? Theres mosquitos and nats, so if you are sensitive to mosquitos, bring repellent. The greeter asked me where i came from, I am curious as to why you ask your guest the said question? is there a hidden discount if youre local??? the entrnce fee is 10 dollars per person which to me is not bad since they run the place through its fees and donations. And to be fair its a nice place to walk around.
over all, it is a decent garden, just dont...
