I enjoyed myself at Laumier Sculpture Park today. I have been there a few times in the past year, but had never seen the hidden gems on the trails. This visit was all about the trails today and I was amazed at what I saw. This place is great for families and children. You can bring along your furry friends as long as the doggie is on a leash. Laumier Sculpture Park has amazing sculptures throughout the park that make great backgrounds for selfies. There's several buildings located on the grounds in the front. One is an actual museum that features various artist, but change up every few months. There's ample parking at several different lots around the park. Most of the park is wheelchair accessible except for the actual trails as they are very rocky and unpaved. Today they had an event party getting set up and it appeared it may have been a wedding as I saw some ladies getting their hair and makeup done. I spent several hours walking through whatever trail I could find today and I saw many new sculptures that I wouldn't have never seen if I would've just saw the visible sculptures. If you're going please do dress comfy with comfy tennis shoes or hiking boots. There's a lot of hilly and grassy areas so be careful and take your time to enjoy all the nature that's available. I always say that nature is my therapy and that it has been. Go and enjoy a few hours there. You won't be disappointed. Laumier Sculpture Park is free there's no...
Read moreThis is THE coolest hidden gem in St. Louis, or maybe the entire Midwest. I hate art museums - this is one of my favorite places I've been to. You can leisurely stroll the paths for a whole day or multiple days and take your time looking at things. You can bound across the huge fields from one ginormous sculpture to another like a little kid. You can walk underneath a 12-foot tall deer, or climb through a giant rubber tire. You can find sculptures that almost don't look like sculptures hidden in the woods. You can look at miniature replicas of all the sculptures and read about what they mean - how a brier patch straight from Br'er Rabbit stories is an allusion to racism and gun violence in American schools today. When you're tired, you can sit in a huge rock that feels like it was sculpted just for your body as the cold, hard stone seems to soften as it absorbs your stress and worries. There's history, literature, culture, math, geometry, construction, poetry, anatomy, all in one fantastic outdoor (did I mention free?!) place that's family friendly and just casually hidden behind an office complex. Just go already; I don't want to...
Read moreGreat place to get steps in, walk your dog, let your little toddler burn off some energy, or simply enjoy being out and about in a park setting. Some of the sculptures are interesting, like the giant eyeball or the stone cat with the mirror mosaic nestled inside. Some of the sculptures are not interesting since they look very similar to ones that you would see on the front lawn of a company's corporate office. I do like the fact that they have a couple of short walking (nature) trails. I recommend wearing shoes you are comfortable wearing for a long distance because the area is a good size. It's a popular place so if you're a person who likes to take a moment to quietly meditate on what you're seeing, bank on a few seconds to a few minutes tops before you have others who want to come along and have a good look and take selfies. All in all, a great place to hang out, very well kept and it's free. So you...
