Let me just say originally I was very pleased with this office because when I initially called it was very pleasant and they got my daughter right in for her emergency dental needs.
Where it takes a VERY ODD TURN: I initially informed the representative that we were on public transportation so please be understanding and the lady who set us up acknowledged. When we got there it was not about my daughter tooth pain they instantly started cleaning her teeth without X RAYS or anything (INSURANCE FRAUD AT ITS FINEST). After she finished her cleaning they did here X-rays which took some time and I spoke with the Matt Waite about my daughter treatment plan. He told us that he couldn’t help what we initially came in for, which is odd because that’s the whole reason for us coming… NOT A CLEANING but of course he had to get paid some way right!?
So he goes on to tell us that she has to see an Oral Surgeon and gave us a referral to someone who DOES NOT TAKE OUR INSURANCE (I found this out when I called the provider). We were told that it was going to be about $3-4K for extraction when Matt knew what kind of insurance we had and I’m sure he knew we were not going to be able to afford that.
When I called the office to advise them that the Oral Surgeon does not accept the insurance and is there another provider that they have referral for to send her to that does accept and I was provided with a bunch of why they don’t deep dive into providers they refer out. As a parent with a child who is having pain with a crack tooth where the nerve is exposed I was a little flustered. I recommended that before they refer anyone out it would be better that they do their research prior because that does not help the patient in the long run.
We are a MELANATED Family by the way FYI….
Because I expressed my legitimate opinion they switched it around and said because of ONE person that could NOT provide in reasoning to this madness felt a way about my opinion, they discontinued care with my daughter. I have never been to this office and it was our first visit and looks like it was already in place to be our last.
I’m so sick of the inequality and judgement within society when it comes to certain individuals. The impact extends beyond the immediate harm- it creates long lasting divisions and cycles of injustice. As a melanated mother with melanated children we should not be overlooked and experience barriers to equal care no matter what insurance we have.
This office just showed me everything that looks good is NOT!
Just take a look at everyone that has attended the office….
With that being said, this is just the beginning not the end.
I will not tolerate this type of behavior because someone who feels privileged decides if my children gets care or not because of their own...
Read moreI would recommend Pediatric Dentistry of Sunset Hills to any parent. Check-in is fast and easy. Health update forms may be completed electronically, even before the visit. I am able to schedule both children for the same appointment time. The atmosphere is fun and friendly; very kid-oriented. The current theme is aquatic with murals and aquariums. The staff and doctors are warm and pleasant. They interact very well with the children and speak to them at their level. My children have been seeing Dr. Fernandez since they turned a year old (8+ years) - both having teeth from 4 months. At that age, he would count teeth, explain good dental hygiene practices to the parent(s), and help the child become comfortable with the whole dental experience. The patient treatment area is open-concept so children won't feel isolated. At the end of the visit, the children can select a prize and stickers; this is in addition to their goody bag of dental care products. My personal wait times have been very minimal and spent connected to free WiFi in the waiting area or watching TV. At completion of the visit, I pay anything not covered by insurance and schedule my follow up appointment. If any additional treatments are recommended, they will provide a cost estimate showing what insurance covers and what would be out-of-pocket. They have all school calendars available showing all holidays, early dismissal days, and days off, which really helps with appointment scheduling. The next appointment date/time is printed right on the receipt. They will provide a note for school if your child is visiting the dentist during school hours. Appointment reminders and confirmation requests are sent well in advance so you may reschedule if needed, with additional reminders sent closer to the appointment date. I'll be disappointed when they transition to an adult dentist after...
Read moreWe've been going here for two years with our son and now our daughter just started. We were seen today and told that I needed to fill out new patient paperwork again. I had completed it all last night. This happened at our last appt as well. While I tried to wrangle my 1 and 3 year olds, I also filled out the paperwork again. It was a 35 min wait until my son was called back for his 930 am cleaning. While waiting I tried to move my kids to the side room so my 3 year old could run around more. I was in the room alone with both kids when an office worker came out of the office to ask if these were my kids and to tell me my 3 year old needs to stop jumping on the furniture and sit down. I understand the jumping but he has high sensory needs and after the 30 min wait I was trying to occupy them. It was the way she said it that bothered me especially working in an office catering to children. I told her I would take them outside so we continued to wait in the hallway. She did come out to apologize which I appreciated. The dental hygienist did an excellent job with my kids. My reason for the 3 stars is due to the long wait and having to keep filling out forms when I did it ahead of time. Trying to keep a 1 and 3 year old occupied and sitting still for a period of time is a challenge. I wish the office staff had been a bit more understanding of that since they are a...
