You never know what you are going to get with these small historical museums, but this one was really well done. It was inexpensive ($5 / adult), and had a lot of cool interactive demonstrations (such as a dynamite simulator, an ore push-cart, a water-powered electric generator). Additionally it had a bunch of cool scale models of different aspects of mines. There are videos throughout the exhibit, although we did not spend much time watching them, so I can't comment on their quality.
Some other details: The museum was built out of a restored mining hospital. It takes up both floors of the hospital, and there are some exhibits in the side yard and rear yard of the hospital. Its pretty easy to spend an hour there, depending on how much text you read in each display. An amusing find is one of the antique shave club kits. Hilarious when you realize people have been working that scam for over 100 years.
Definitely worth a stop if you are looking for something to do to get out of the cold...
Read moreAs far as small town historical museums go, it was impressive. A large portion dealt with the ski history of Telluride, a little about the building itself, and a little about the mining history of the town.
The historic house seems mostly intact, as far as structure goes. The displays are tasteful and interesting, predominately information boards on the walls, with a bit of extras here and there.
The downstairs starts with the native-American beginnings, then the early days of town with mock-up store fronts and a room sized model of an old mine town house.
There is an impressive imitation mine tunnel behind the building with various mining implements that can be operated a bit.
Ticket costs were reasonable and desire what the website says, masks are not required, or ever mentioned.
Good place to learn about the area. Nice break from busy town as...

They even took us inside the original location where the film festival is held. The museum is definitely worth the time to find what made this area historical as well as beautiful. Person working there was knowledgeable and couldn't have been...
