Our stay at the Ice House suites was wonderful. There are plusses and minuses to this place so hopefully this review will help others. We were passing through Telluride for an early dinner and decided to stay the night when we found a condo at the Ice House available on Expedia. When we finally figured out where to check in, which is a block away from the actual condos, we saw that the sign on the curb said loading and unloading only so we had to go find a parking space several blocks away and walk back to check in. When we did we were informed that they allow people to park there temporarily to check in. So if you are visiting, go ahead and park right out front at the loading zone to check in, it's much more convenient. That being said, as soon as we checked in the the gentleman behind the counter personally walked us over to the free parking at the condo. Condo. When I retrieved our vehicle and met him there, he had already grabbed a luggage cart and was standing in a space that was convenient for our large SUV. He then proceeded to give us a tour and point out where the laundry facilities are and the pool in, spa, and sauna were. The location of the property is incredible, right on the river and a block and a half from the free gondola ride to the top of the mountain. It's also two blocks from the main drag where all of the shops and restaurants are as well as many on the streets in between. So we were perfectly situated to walk around town and enjoy.
The condo itself unfortunately was extremely dated. It had rugs covering the hardwood floors that were older than our adult children. The decorating was just about as old and the bed was barely a foot off the floor, which was extremely hard to get in and out of with a physical disability. The AC didn't work but there was a fan that I was able to prop in the doorway to the small balcony that only had enough room for two small chairs and barely enough room to get in them. But the balcony had a screen door and the windows head screens. So when we open them, the breeze was wonderful and we could hear the river right outside all night long. Our condo had two full baths even though there was only one bedroom with a king bed. The main living/breakfast room had a table and chairs, a sofa and TV, a small desk to work at, and a kitchenette with an induction stove. Top, a microwave, a K-Cup coffee maker, and a full size refrigerator. Even though the place was dated and not very comfortable, the river outside and access to town made it a fantastic location and in the end a very nice stay.
What really topped it off was the service. We got in late, so by the time we got settled and went out to get dinner, by the time we got back the pool and hot tub had just closed. My wife called the front desk to ask them if the closing time was a hard stop or if there was flexibility and they offered to leave it open as long as we wanted if we headed straight over. We grabbed our stuff and went over and sat in the hot tub and the sauna for a good 30 minutes. Enjoying the river just on the other side of the balcony. It was a wonderful way to end the day and they waited to close it down until we were finished.
Looking back on our stay at Ice House suites, we both agree we want to stay here again, although we will stay in a different unit, hopefully more modern and up-to-date. The facility itself was extremely comfortable, perfectly located, and serviced by...
Read moreIce house made our whole anniversary/birthday trip. We called them around 9pm after more or less fleeing from our original AvantStay rental due to an abundance of pet dander in a "humans only" rental that had me close to needing the ER for asthma. Ice house took care of us from the minute we gave them a ring - they talked through the available units, bed types, and respective pet histories, met us outside the condo, helped us find parking in the garage (and there were outlets for us to use to recharge our EV!), and then offered to show us the various condos that were available and ready for guests. We ended up in 401, a beautiful 2 bedroom on the top floor with a comfy (and firm) king bed, two twins, some epic bathrooms, a washer dryer, and a great open living area. Typical for the area, there was no A/C in the bedrooms (there was AC in the living space), but the many available fans brought in the cool air from outside and we felt fine. There were several humidifiers, and we used one with a paper filter. The owners may have a dog, but we didn't experience much of an issue with pet dander - some sneezing if we were on the carpet foam rolling, but it resolved when we moved to the hardwood floor and didn't have an issue on any of the furniture. We did a lot of hiking and took many naps. The complex has a coffee station and a pretty good gym - we didn't check out the other amenities but they have all sorts of stuff. The wifi was solid - was able to present my zoom meeting with no disruptions. The location was perfect - it was super quiet (faced an interior courtyard so we didn't hear street or bar noise), close to our favorite food spots and the smaller grocery store, down the block from the gondola, near the library, close to a book store, and right across the creek from bear creek trailhead. The parking garage was a little tricky when it was full, but the ice house staff was very helpful when I got nervous parking and came over to help me haha. And, I mean, parking, let alone covered parking, in Telluride? What a gift. And did I mention we could charge our car? Wins! The team at Ice House was also available whenever we needed and offered availability through the night if we experienced any challenges. We felt so taken care of and were so incredibly grateful for their kindness. We will probably only stay here during...
Read moreWhat a great location in Telluride! Check in is next door, half a block down, at the Camel's Garden. Very easy! Parking underneath the building. It's a little tight if you have a large vehicle but it is doable. The building is so quiet! It was lovely. We were on the 3rd floor, room 302, which overlooked the building next to main building with the pool. It was a little dark due to the direction it faced, but it was a lovely view of the pond. Room 301 would have views of San Juan Avenue which would be nice. Room 306 and 307 would have views of the parking lot next door and the Camel's Garden hotel plus the gondola another block down. The 2nd floor has a nice gym; didn't use it but it had a treadmill, elliptical, bike and maybe some other basic equipment. We loved that there was coffee in the solarium on the 3rd floor. The 4th floor looks very quiet! Ice machine on 3rd floor was convenient; Laundry machines (free!) were on the ground floor near the pool building. Our room was a 1 bedroom, 1.5 bath lovely space. The living area was super comfortable. The kitchen was great! A small fridge, small freezer, Wolf Induction cooktop and Bosch dishwasher, plus a microwave. There are directions for the appliances on an information sheet that also has the code to get into the laundry room and the pool building. The bed was comfortable and the little deck was nice. Nothing too fancy on the deck but a great place to enjoy our morning coffee and afternoon appetizers. Super great location, just a block to the gondola and a few blocks to town. It happened to be the Mushroom Festival when we were there, which was super interesting people watching (not a fan of mushrooms, so some of them were annoying). The parade on saturday afternoon was "interesting" followed by a drum circle down in Town Park. I was worried we would be hearing 'shroom heads beating on drums all night but luckily there were a few buildings between ours and the park. So it was no problem. Overall a fantastic stay and I would not hesitate to stay...
