A friend told me about this great little yarn shop in The Dalles and I was really excited to take a look around. It took me a couple weeks to get to town, but I made the trip this weekend and I am glad I did.
The shop is on a little side street downtown. If you follow Google maps you'll loop around through an alley, so just turn one block before it says to (coming from the east).
The shop is on the smaller side, but very cosy.
They carry a variety of quality yarns, and the price will reflect that big you are yarn shopping on a budget this might not be the shop for you.
However, if you're willing to pay the type of price that quality yarn often requires you will not be disappointed. I found a good variety of my new favorite Japanese yarn brand, Noro, there. I also discovered a new European favorite, Laines du Nord (made in Italy).

Read moreHeather, Beth, and the rest of the team have created one of the most welcoming, inclusive and joyful yarn shops I've ever been in. The yarns themselves are gorgeous and beautifully curated, the space is fresh and inviting, and there are tons of amazing sweater samples to inspire. But more than that, this place is incredibly welcoming and encouraging. If you've ever been in a yarn store and felt not cool enough, not experienced enough, not knowledgeable enough - House of A La Mode is the antidote. I've been knitting seriously for about 20 years, and I still learn something new every single time I go. The entire team is just so dedicated to their craft and...
Read moreI love this shop. It is truly a hidden gem. Very inviting staff. Owner Heather is so friendly! It doesnât feel cliquish which is always nice (it happens more often than one would think - but NOT here). The selection of Noro and their in house Label HOALM are gorgeous! Itâs like youâve been knocked unconscious and gone to that place where youâre imagination really lives.
Iâm looking forward to visits in the autumn again when we make our way back towards Gresham and the Gorge.
I will be coming back to make more purchases and before I forget, have you seen the Summer of â69 colors... if I wasnât elbows deep in a recent yarn haul... letâs just say I would be eating just rice and beans for the next year.
Stop by and show some love if youâre ever in historic Gresham. Itâs...
