As leaders in sports physical therapy, we wanted to address one of the more common injuries #athletes sustain, medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries. Read more below on the grades of MCL injuries, their recovery process, and the significant role of non-surgical healing due to the excellent blood flow in the MCL region. The #MCL is a vital ligament that provides stability to the inner side of the #knee joint, preventing excessive side-to-side motion. These #injuries frequently occur during sports activities involving sudden changes in direction, twisting, or direct impact to the knee. Understanding the severity of an MCL injury is essential for determining the appropriate treatment and rehabilitation approach. Grade 1 MCL injuries involve mild stretching or slight tearing of the ligament fibers. Individuals with grade 1 injuries typically experience minimal pain, mild swelling, and a slight decrease in knee stability. Fortunately, the MCL possesses good blood flow, enabling it to receive adequate nutrients and oxygen to aid in the healing process. Therefore, the majority of grade 1 MCL injuries do not require surgical intervention. Instead, a conservative approach, including rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE), but most importantly, #physicaltherapy, is typically sufficient. The focus of rehabilitation is on pain reduction, restoring range of motion, and strengthening the surrounding muscles to enhance knee stability. Grade 2 MCL injuries involve partial tearing of the ligament, resulting in moderate pain, swelling, and notable instability in the knee joint. Similar to grade 1 injuries, grade 2 MCL injuries benefit from the MCL's robust blood supply, which aids in the healing process. While surgery is rarely required for grade 2 injuries, the extent of the tear may necessitate a more comprehensive treatment approach. Physical therapy plays a vital role in the rehabilitation of grade 2 MCL injuries, aiming to restore full knee range of motion, improve strength and stability, and facilitate a safe return to #sports Grade 3 MCL injuries are the most severe, involving a complete tear or rupture of the ligament. These injuries often result in significant pain

I was referred to APEX PWR by my PCP for physical therapy, who told me all of the Physical Therapists at this facility are fabulous (true) yet recommended I work with Emily Cullen if I could get on her schedule. Let me tell you, Emily is truly an amazing Physical Therapist who is worth her pint-sized weight in gold! She was thorough in her assessment and intake as well as explaining things to me through the process of developing my PT routines and home exercise plan. Emily possesses the ability to guage her patient's current capabilities while at the same time encouraging them to push themselves. She does not allow short-cuts or half-ass efforts; Emily was always my biggest cheerleader. I would leave my sessions all sweaty and tired, yet with that great sense of having worked hard and having achieved my goals for that day. I always looked forward to PT sessions and the progress I was making. I so enjoyed working with Emily Cullen that I referred my sister and daughter to her for physical therapy as well (and yes, they both really like her and their PT outcomes). Now that I have been released from physical therapy (and feel great), I decided to join APEX PWR to further my personal fitness efforts. Today I will attend my first group strength/cardio session (with Alisha), and while I know it is going to kick my butt, I'm seriously looking forward to it. My experience as a whole with everyone at APEX PWR has thus far exceeded my expectations. From the front desk staff, to the Physical Therapists and trainers, everyone has been professional, welcoming, encouraging, and supportive of me and my goals. I appreciate that I can show up as myself and not feel judged for where I am in my fitness journey. APEX PWR is staffed with a team who is sincerely enthusiastic about what they do, for the sake of helping YOU to live the healthiest, best life possible. Huge kudos to Emily Cullen for all her help and encouragement to get me to this next phase in my personal journey. She...

As a 45-year old athlete, I have had my share on injuries requiring therapy. Nowhere else have I had such a positive experience as I’ve had at Apex. The reason for that is simple. Apex is uniquely focused on human performance.

I first worked with Apex, not for myself, but as a parent of an injured athlete. I watched them help get my daughter back to performance level by using movements and activities that not just got her back to baseline, but improved her strength and confidence to avoid future injury. I was impressed!

When Apex announced their adult strength training classes, I thought the idea was brilliant and signed up. What I appreciate about the offering is that participants are not just getting a workout, but become connected to the entire staff and Apex community. When one of the class instructors found out I was needing a knee surgery, she encouraged me to meet with an Apex PT for a pre-surgical evaluation and “pre-hab”. I appreciated the fluidity they offered me to move between strength class and PT as I navigated surgery.

Dustin, my physical therapist, didn’t treat me like a broken middle-aged woman after my knee surgery. He honored the athlete in me and helped me frame out my recovery plan by keeping my pre-surgery metrics and desired performance at the forefront. I love that my physical therapy sessions include the movements from Apex’s adult strength training classes, so I can get back to the group classes as soon as possible. For me, the most unique part of Apex’s approach to PT is using the large turf area in the complex to work on agility. By playing games with my PT, I was able to move in ways that I was somewhat nervous to try at home on my own. Dustin helped me gain confidence back in my athletic performance. It’s not every day a 45-year old female gets to feel the bravado of beating her PT at soccer-tennis 5 1/2 weeks...

Exceptional experience. I'm on a personal mission to build my best body, and drive life-impacting health change so that I can enjoy my post-50 years to their fullest. This journey I'm confident will extend beyond me, impacting my family, friendships, and career.

From the moment, literally, I entered through the doors at Apex, I could feel the difference from other athletic/wellness facilities. And, that begins with the humans, the professionals, the faces of the business. I was like, these professionals care, and these are the kinds of humans I often seek as friends.

While I walked in the door for a baseline DEXA Scan and to evaluate my metabolism as I embark on the next stages of my strength training, I knew after discussions with both Kalen, and Jeron, that for any PT needs, this is where I would come. It's not convenient nor close to my residence in Portland, Oregon, nor does it matter. I'd drive hours for the focus, care, and attention they offer, plus the prompt follow-up and follow-through after my visit.

Thanks Kalen and Jeron for stepping out years ago to bring your vision for a place to champion one's body to life. I'll be back to evaluate my progress with the DEXA, RMR, and VO2 Max testing plus be assured that for any performance or injury-based PT I need, I'll be walking in your door.

As a Sr Leader with Amazon it's not often that I post reviews for businesses, products, or services. I've come to appreciate the dedication it takes to build something that is truly customer-centric, and where everyone is intensely committed to working from the customer, backwards. It's refreshing to encounter a team of people in this industry who obviously...
