Salon Prime — Attraction in Town of Hempstead

I really wanted to try this place because of the great reviews. I booked my appointment online for a full head balayage session and Olalplex. On the website it says that it will take approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.

The area was new for me and I got inside 20 minutes late due to no absolutely no parking and traffic on mothers day which I expressed to them over the phone. When I got in, Alexa told me that she pretty much can't do my hair because I was 20mins late and I asked if there is anything she can do to my hair that will take lesser time because my sisters wedding is coming up and that it was the only day for me to get my hair done. She said she can't do anything because she only has 40 minutes left with me. I completely understand it is my fault for being late and there might be other people booked after me HOWEVER what I don't understand is how she only has 40mins for me when I was booked for 2 hours and 45 minutes? I was exactly 20 minutes late (I can provide proof) which means she still has 2 hours and 25 minutes left for me. It is obvious that they overbooked or forgot about my appointment. Whatever it was., I was not upset or angry and I understood that it was my fault. I didn't say anything to them at all even though I knew they did me wrong and I had just wasted a 35 min drive and will be attending my sisters wedding without my hair done. Alexa was also really friendly and kind and she did a test stand on me that day and booked my next appointment with her.

The day of my appointment was the day AFTER my sister's wedding at 1:15pm. I overslept and woke up at 12:40, it was my sisters wedding the night before and was extremely drained and exhausted. I called Salon Prime to let them know I wont be able to make it. I asked for the latest time they had today and the guy asked me how far I was, I said 25 minutes and he said come right in. After I hung up, brushed my teeth and got ready, I called them again before leaving and was like hey I just wanna make sure youll take me in and not turn me away like last time.... He was extremely rude and spoke to me as if he was my boss and I was an employee of his? He was like " ugh Maria this is the second time you're late like you can't do this blah blah blah, I don't even remember what he said but I had him on speaker in front of my sisters/bridesmaids and they were all telling me to hang up and why im letting someone speak to me that way. As soon as I began to explain my part, my phone died so here is my review to explain my part.

Listen I completely understand being late is my fault and people have set schedules however there was NO NEED to be rude and show me a nasty attitude. I was not once rude or said anything disrespectful. Alexa was really sweet but this review is for the front desk guy that answers the phone. So some context - I've had highlights/coloring done elsewhere in the past and been very badly burned by the experiences - one place in particular (won't say where here, that's not the point) did a horrible balayage on me that was not at all blended and streaky and just a mess, and when I went for a correction they blamed me for not providing photos and had a horrible attitude. They were very rude about it and it was such a bad experience that I didn't do anything to my hair anywhere so over a year.

Well, my friend is getting married in a month and I'm in the bridal party, and thought it was finally time to have something done. I did a lot of research on local salons both through Yelp reviews and Instagram photos. Salon Prime immediately caught my eye. Many salons had amazing pictures, but what drew me here was their previous NYC experience, the ease of booking online, and their great attitude towards the rare negative review here on Yelp. Many other salons I noticed responding very rudely toward customers that had a bad experience, and I was not about to deal with that again.

Fortunately, my experience at Salon Prime could not have been better and no correction needed! I went in for a Full Head Balayage with Tara, who could not have been nicer. She listened to what I wanted and did a beautiful job transforming my neutral brown hair with several inches of growth from last year's fiasco and slightly brassy ends. The final look is my natural brown with cool golden blonde blended in beautifully. She really knows what she's doing and the final result is gorgeous. It was a hard time initially picking between her and John; I found both of their Instagrams and all their work looked amazing. I did catch glimpses of John work while I was there, and from what I could tell either colorist would be a great choice! It ended with Nathan (the owner) blowing out my hair and he did such an incredible job with my thick, wavy hair that it survived the weekend's horrible humidity!

Some other random pros: The max I could put in for parking was three hours worth, and this took three and a half hours total, so when my meter ran out John went out to refill the meter for me. Not sure who made it, but someone there makes a great cappuccino :) The space is beautiful and modern and has a real NYC feel. They also take all major credit cards and you have to option of tipping via Venmo, which are really nice options.

Will definitely be coming back here again for color maintenance with Tara; Nathan really wanted to cut my hair (it hasn't been cut since April and it shows haha) and I may just let him! So happy to finally have a non-traumatizing hair...

I never write reviews but this one was more than well deserved. The salon is gorgeous and CLEAN!!!!! As someone who is still uncomfortable by coronavirus, it is very important for me to see businesses take the covid guidelines seriously. This salon deserves 5 stars for that category alone. I have never felt more comfortable in a public setting than I did here, I can not express my gratitude enough. Secondly, my hair experience...... I have very VERY curly hair that I have been struggling with for years. I came in to do a full head balayage and cut, and left like a completely different person. Alexa did the color for me and she was absolutely INCREDIBLE. Nathan cut my hair and was also INCREDIBLE!!!!!! My hair is the healthiest it’s ever been. Thank you so much Nathan ❤️ You are doing an amazing job with this salon and I can not wait to come back!!! To anyone considering coming to this salon- DO IT. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

I came back again for a second time and they outdid themselves again but I couldn't figure out how to write a second review so I am going to add to my first one. If i could give this place 100 stars I would. This place is so beautiful and so clean. Everyone here is so friendly. I got my hair colored and cut, and I have not been able to stop looking at myself in the mirror since. My hair came out so beautifully that I gave every employee there a hug as I was leaving. I will FOREVER be coming to this salon and will be dragging every single person I know along to come to this salon as well. You got to give credit where it's due, and this salon deserves all of it.
