The service at Bijou Art Galleries is some of the worst I’ve experienced. I called ahead to ask a specific question, and the woman who answered couldn’t have been more dismissive or unprepared. She clearly didn’t know what she was talking about, kept dodging basic inquiries, and had the tone of someone who resents having to do her own job.
Visiting in person didn’t improve anything. The gallery feels like an afterthought—sterile, unwelcoming, and painfully self-important. The artwork? Forgettable. Uninspired pieces strung together under the guise of being “conceptual,” when really, it’s just lazy curation pretending to be deep.
The owner floats through the space like she’s above everyone. She doesn’t greet you, doesn’t offer help, just stares through you like you’re lucky to be breathing the same air. She seems more interested in projecting some vague image of authority than actually running a professional business.
Nothing about this place works—bad service, bad atmosphere, and bad attitude. It’s not about art here. It’s about ego. Don’t...
Read moreIf you are a POC do not go. They keep their eyes on you like a hawk. I walked in and was looking at a few things and darting eyes immediately. But it gets worse. There is a section in the back of the store where there is a little squeaky ramp to go up half a step. I walked up it no problem and start looking at stuff in a glass box. Without touching anything, the lamp on top of the glass box falls and breaks. A lady next to me noticed and said that wasn’t you don’t worry. A staff member comes up and starts sweeping the floor. At this point I tell the man I did not touch anything. And the lady next to me says it’s probably the squeaky ramp that is right next to it. That old man staffer says well someone has to pay for it, goes back speaks to the owner and she tries to kick me out. Definitely in a rude and condescending way for sure. There are cameras there right pointing at the direction of the glass box, so they can rewind the tapes. ANYWAY if you are a person of color do...
Read moreI have been coming here for a quarter of a century or more. My house is about as congested as the aisles of Bijou itself, and a great deal of this profusion came off the shelves of this fantastic emporium. Right now I'm sitting in my comfy chair, my eyes gliding over tables, walls, bookshelves, what have you, and so many things I see had gone through the front door of this treasure trove! Really, it's not enough to say this place is a treasure trove. It is a wonderment. Jane is charming, helpful, friendly and a great host.
I...
