Very charming bed and breakfast with a great location.
The building is beautiful. It's a historic building and it definitely shows its age, but in a good way. It's got plenty of personality you wouldn't get at more "standard" hotel. Lots of cool antique furniture, and I think even the floors are original.
The service was generally very good. We missed one day/night of our reservation due to flooding in our location. The trains were literally not running and as we do not have a car there was no way for us to get there. The inn owner accommodated us getting there a day late and even offered a voucher for the day we missed which we really appreciated. We had just taken that day as a loss and were happy to get there at all, never asked for a refund or voucher so this was a nice surprise. We asked if it was possible to check out an hour or two late so we could spend some extra time in Cold Springs since we missed a day, and this request was accommodated as well which was appreciated. Everyone on the staff we interacted with was kind and respectful.
They put out an apple pie around the middle of the afternoon which was really tasty. I think here is some sort of baked good every afternoon. The complimentary breakfast the next day was very good - there was so much food I barely finished. A comparable breakfast in the area would probably cost at least $25 a person if not more. The breakfast was served in their "Victorian Conservatory" which was gorgeous as well.
The room we had was pretty nice. The beds were large and comfortable although the quality of the bed linens was a little lacking. The pillows were not really comfortable. Not the best, but you stay at a historic B&B for the personality, not a spotless sterile experience. There are no televisions or extraneous modern creature comforts like a mini-fridge but I consider this a plus, makes for a more quaint experience.
There was a misunderstanding about something but the owner called us to clear it up which was appreciated. Overall it was a...
Read moreOkay pay attention this is important. If you are one of those that likes really old historical properties that have that old feel to it with no modern ammenities and in all honesty has a run down look about it furnished with yard sale items....this place is for you! I'm not that guy. The outside of the building has a cool look to it but the inside in my opinion needs to be gutted and totally refreshed. The place is run down and a bit on the gloomy side but there are people that like that. The whole place is a squeek box and you have to slam the doors to close them. Basically the whole interior from top to bottom needs updating. What's with the front area with the old cheap jewelery and stuff dust collecting? Beds are not comfortable and the pillows are terrible. Box spring and mattress hermedically sealed... hope that doesn't indicate a problem. It could have tremendous charm and upside but you need to spend some money. All furnishings including lights, carpets, drapes, etc are either cheap junk or really old. Terrible water pressure. Wall paper peeling or ripped. Just feels old and dirty. It's just rundown. No TV or any other modern conveniences. Came back from dinner and the 1st and second floors had a funky smell going on. This as you can obviously see is not my thing. Like Dave the Inn Keeper I thought he was friendly and his breakfast is good. I've been to some amazing B&B's that were immaculate and tastefully done ...but unfortunately this place isn't one of them at this time. In all honesty this place should be tops...
Read moreIt was an absolute pleasure to have been able to stay at this quaint bed and breakfast. Located on Main Street in the village of Cold Spring, you are literally steps from antique shops, a general store, restaurants, cafes, etc. I decided to stay here for the July 4th holiday for 3 nights. I live in the Bronx so I always make it a habit to get away for July 4th as it gets super noisy with all the Roman candles and M80's being thrown around at all hours of the night! I slept like a baby here! Pure peace and quiet, just the way I like it! Breakfast every morning was AMAZING! A variety of dishes to choose from and freshly prepared! If you have the pleasure to meet Vera who is the owner then consider yourself blessed! She really goes out of her way to make you feel at home! It was great to have a glass of wine with her and some very lovely phenomenal ladies on my first night there. You will also find that in the afternoon the staff will leave a yummy treat for all the guests in the kitchen like a cake or pie or brownies. Help yourself, make a cup of tea and sit in the kitchen or in the living room. This place is EXACTLY what I needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of NYC! Thank you so much Vera and I wish you and your entire staff continued success...
