Very slow service, which is surprising given the number of wait staff they had and that the restaurant wasn't even crowded. They had a number of younger workers, probably because of the summer season, but they were all a lot more efficient and diligent than the older lady, who seemed to be doing as little as she could and moving at a glacial speed.
We were seated immediately, but it took maybe 10-15 minutes to even get glasses of water let alone our order taken. The wait staff were tending other tables, and when we made eye contact with the older lady saying we were ready to order, she said to give her a minute as she took her time to check on a table outside. Another wait staff eventually was able to give us water and take our order.
The food also came out slowly. We ordered a hummus platter, the fruit bowl side, and the eggs and hash. The eggs and hash was not bad -- the hash was a bit on the oily side. The hummus platter was just alright -- the pita bread was dry and stale.
The lady was nice, but didn't seem to have proper customer service / restaurant etiquette. She just wasn't attentive, didn't have a good second nature for tending customers, and when we were heading out the door after our meal she kind of motioned to give her the right of way as she was coming in, which is a small thing but it surprised us because we thought usually the workers would give their customers right of way.
Overall, the food was just average, but given the pace of this place, I wouldn't return here. The younger workers really were apt though, and they were great with refilling our water when they saw it was empty. All the workers seemed to be tending all table without much...
Read moreThey legitimately could have killed my son today.
When ordering, we informed the server that my son had serious anaphylactic allergies to nuts, dairy, and eggs, and then asked if the oatmeal was safe for him to eat. The server repeated each of his allergies aloud to make sure none of them were ingredients in the oatmeal. He took a few bites before I tried it, which is when I noticed walnuts. Luckily, he didn’t eat any of the nuts as he absolutely would have gone into anaphylactic shock and I would have had to administer his epi pen in the restaurant and then rush to the emergency room.
When I told the server there were nuts in his oatmeal she said, “no there isn’t”, so I had to actually pull a nut out to show her proof. She apologized and then offered the child some yogurt instead, which is dairy, another severe allergy she was clearly informed about.
The server returned again to tell us the owner-manager said today was the first day the cook has ever used nuts in the oatmeal but that no one informed her. The owner-manager never came over, and our bill was never adjusted sufficiently. We aren’t the types of diners who need comps or anything special for that matter, but we expected them to be cognizant of and cautious about deadly allergies. If they can’t even take their customers’ lives seriously then I can’t imagine they’d take food borne illness or sanitation seriously either. This was the first time we have ever given a 15% tip at...
Read moreMy wife, son and I showed up Sunday 09/30/18 at 12 noon. Place wasn't too busy so we got a table right away. The waitress stopped at out table four times to tell us she was busy and would be right with us. She finally took our order and off she went. One hour (timed) later and after two inquiries as to where our food was, she came to our table (now we were one of three tables occupied) to ask us what we ordered. We asked why she needed to know and she said she wanted to know what to bring who. After a few questions by us she admitted she couldn't locate our ticket and the order was never submitted. Our usual waitress, Sharon came over and apologized and offered us free breakfasts. The really annoying thing was our waitress lied numerous times to cover up the fact that she messed up. Seeing us sitting there for almost an hour, with very few tables taken, should have elicited a question by our waitress to the kitchen. We are regulars here but we're so turned off by the lies that we declined the free breakfast and immediately left. We ate elsewhere and had a marvelous meal. It was handled so poorly, we will never go back. That's how badly it was handled. There are a good many eateries in Cold Spring so putting up with arrogant incompetence is not necessary. Try Hudson Hil's. It's a class above in both service and food. It's a shame. This place was...
