Extremely disappointed by my experience here after being told this was a great place to check out. The waiter with the mohawk was one of the rudest, most condescending people I've interacted with in years working in the service industry and that says a lot considering everyone is pretty grumpy these days. Once we finally got seated, he was pushy with my party about ordering, snarky in attitude when asked a question about what came with a dish, and easily agitated once it was mentioned that another waiter had already asked us our order for drinks and that we had mentioned we told the other waiter we would be splitting checks (which the other waiter said was totally fine and even thanked us for mentioning it up front). He then proceeded to bark at our table to keep ordering when there were 3 servers trying to give drinks to our table and got frustrated and then said "oh they want YOU as their server" to the other server before storming off in a melodramatic huff. He was sarcastic the entire time we were forced to wait outside for an extra 25 minutes in the cold for our table and kept trying to make off handed jokes to alleviate the wait time by going in and out of the restaurant by saying he was going to go scream at the guest who was taking too long to leave. We were given menus while outside waiting and were told we could order there if we wanted as an "accomodation" for the extra wait time. This was especially ridiculous because they had called us to tell us our table was READY. Another couple came for their 7:15PM reservation with their baby and mohawk guy told them, "oh I thought you weren't coming anymore" so their reservation wasn't ready to which we heard the guest say she specifically said 7:15PM and he went back and forth with her awkwardly saying she told him they weren't coming. He was clearly having a bad day for whatever reason, which I empathize with, as we were having a rough day as well, however as a person who was spending my first time in Cold Spring and looking forward to a nice meal and intimate dining experience with friends and colleagues, it was the continued attitude of total disregard of kindness and politeness during a bummer of a situation that earns this restaurant a 1 star review, next to the fact that our entrees came out first before a SOUP appetizer and mushy tuna fish quality crab cakes, and the most bitter, unsweet, fruitless sangria presented in a beer glass with ice and a straw. This sucks to write because I don't ever write reviews like this even if there may be a little issue here or there, however from start to end, mohawk guy set the tone for the bad taste that would be left in my mouth after a dining experience...
Read moreEDIT: 11/13/24 WE came in for an early dinner on a Friday at 3:30pm. This was our 2nd time here. I took a star off because the the consistency isn't there. I got the same exact filet mignon medium rare for me and my dad. Mine came out rare and my dad's was medium. Also it wasn't as flavorful. Even when I look at the previous one I got the sauce is clearly lighter and not the same consistency.
We weren't offered any bread until we asked after our meal came out. It's still the cold bread with ice cold butter.
My mom's mussels had a nice sauce but lots of grit in them. They didn't give a spoon with all that broth either.
We were also sat next to a huge family that were super loud and disruptive. Parents had no control over their teens. Not the restaurant's fault but it does suck when it's so cramped inside.
Original review-----------------------
Came in for dinner on Sunday around 5pm and there was a little line outside of the restaurant. Waited maybe 10mins before we got a table. Could have sat immediately outside but it was freezing.
The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Restaurant interior is clean but cramped. We sat at a booth where the bench is shared and you're within inches from another customer on the sides. Really glad we're small people lol.
We were offered bread after making our order. It looks like house made sourdough but it comes ice cold with ice cold butter that isn't salted. Overall would skip next time. Pretty tasteless.
We didn't have to wait long for our appetizer and entree to arrive. We ordered the octopus to start. Never seen it presented this way. It was almost compressed together and sliced like deli meat. It was tender enough to be able to cut with a fork and seasoned well. There was a slight tinge of fishy smell. The fingerling potatoes were roasted and seasoned well. I enjoyed the aioli that came with it as it complemented the octopus and fingerling potatoes.
For entrees we got the filet medium rare with mash potatoes and the wild mushroom ravioli. The filet was excellent. Cooked perfectly and tender. Loved the port wine demi which elevated the dish. The mashed potatoes were creamy and comforting.
The mushroom ravioli was rich and delicious. Loved the pesto sauce. For dessert we got the french vanilla creme brulee. The custard was delicious and the caramelized sugar on top was super crispy.
Would love to come back and try their other dishes.
PS: This didn't apply to us tonight but just noting for new patrons--there is a plate sharing fee listed on the menu (which I find any restaurant charging this kinda...
Read moreThis was my first time coming to this restaurant and overall, I am disappointed first of all, it’s a tight squeeze inside. I definitely I could see outdoor seating being better when it’s warm outside. There were only two staff members for the whole restaurant who seem to never communicate with each other about anything. So one would come around and ask us if we need anything and then we would have to tell the second one that we ordered through the other one and it was just awkward. We overheard the mohawk guys conversations with other guests and overall seemed like rude guy. When we asked for bread we were given three slices and some cold butter with no salt we ordered the escargot that came out in a timely manner but did not come with bread if we never asked for it and I’ve definitely had better. We then had a long wait in between our appetizer and entrées because the waiter mixed up our food with another table and the customer at the other table, didn’t realize that she had our food. So they had to remake it. Then when it did come out, I was very disappointed with my measly piece of dry duck three potatoes and 5 leaves that they called a salad. I think that duck ate a better salad before it died. The saffron seafood “soup” was ok definitely needed more flavor. There weren’t many tables at that time so there shouldn’t of been such a long wait. I think this is because of lack of communication between the two waiters. The portion/ quality to price is definitely lacking. Honestly , the best part about the whole meal was the dessert and the cherry on top of the entire night, was when my boyfriend said he saw a mouse about to crawl under our table. We will never be going back again even when it is nice outside. First...
